Marine Biology Degree

Cecil Said:

How much chemistry do you have to take to get a marine biology degree?

We Answered:

For marine biology you would probably have to take 3 or 4 chemistry classes: general chem, biochem, organic chem, and maybe quantitative analysis. I doubt you would have to take p-chem for marine bio. Of course this all depends on what school you go to and their respective major requirements. If you have your eye on any specific school I would look into the requirements.

Lance Said:

What can I do with a Marine Biology degree?

We Answered:

Ah...what couldn't you do? With a batchelor's degree, you could:
1. work in a zoo or other place where you'd study or care for marine organisms
2. work in a laboratory helping a PhD with her research in marine biology
3. be a journalist (if you like to write) specializing in environmental issues
4. be an aide to a Congressman researching environmental issues
5. teach in high school

With a PhD you could:
1. do research in marine biology (in a university or research center)
2. teach in college
3, do any other the things listed above

BP oil spill or..."Would you like fries with that"

Colleen Said:

What type of job can you get in Wisconsin with a marine biology degree?

We Answered:

She could probably get a job with the Department of Natural Resources doing fish surveys or work in a near-by aquarium.
Just because her degree says 'marine' doesn't mean she has to do something with the ocean. The degree can apply to freshwater studies as well.

Toni Said:

Is it possible to get a Marine Biology degree online?

We Answered:

Probably not since you can not complete any labs (dissection, chemistry or physics) online.
