Interesting difference in majors. Have you started college yet? I did my undergrad work in Social Work and all transferred into my Masters program.
I had obviously many counseling classes, both group and individual. I took many substance abuse classes and received a certificate in Women's Studies, which helped me be able to focus mainly working with women. Oh also many many mental health classes. You can practice counseling but with supervision of a PhD. Not so great. I just got my 4 year degree in psychology and quite honestly I regret going for it. I so desperately wish that I had gone for something else because now I don't have a job and I know that I won't be able to find one in the psychology field. It's almost pathetic that I wasted so much time and money going to school and now I'll probably end up working at the mall or something completely irrelevant like that.
And because I don't have a job I can't afford to go to school further for at least a Master's. Pathetic.

You may be able to consider a variety of counseling positions, depending upon the requirements of the employers. For example, university guidance centers hire counselors, and various social services agencies hire counselors - addictions counselors, counselors for victims of abuse, etc. Cancer centers employ counselors to work with patients and their families, etc. You may have to do some extra course work to qualify to work in some situations with adults. Begin to look around and I think you will find a variety of options.

It depends on where you want to go, and what you want to specialize in in counseling. Most schools require a GRE score of 1000 combined, and a lot want a psych undergraduate degree, plus 3 professional letters of rec. It's not normally needed to have any previous counseling experience, because you will get that in grad school. Try going to the library and browsing through their books that list grad schools or if you go to college set up an appointment with an advisor. Godd luck!

Depends on the school. Are you talking about a highly ranked private college or a community or junior college? There's a big difference. Also, be aware that just because you have the minimum required to teach somewhere, that doesn't mean that people with additional and/or more advanced degrees won't also be applying for the position too.

The vast majority of psychotherapists in private practice are social workers with an LCSW (licensed clinical social worker). The LCSW is the second most respected license (the licensed psychologist is the most - but you need a PhD for this). With an MA in counseling you will get wither an LMFT (licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) or LPC (licensed professional counselor). Social work has an accreditation schema that ensures a level of quality. Not all counseling programs are accredited. Also the LMFT and LPC are newer licenses.

Now all that said. Social work is more than clinical work. It is a profession that is also about social justice and larger system work. So if you have no interest in these - then I would go the counseling route.
