Masters Degree In Education

Jeff Said:

What's the benefit of a masters degree in education?

We Answered:

The M.A. will do two things for you.

It will qualify you to teach at high schools and community colleges, should you ever choose to do this.

It will also provide you with a better understanding of your field or specialty; after all, that is the purpose of education.

Zachary Said:

How I can volunteer to teach Aborigines? I live in Australia with a work visa and masters degree in education.

We Answered:

go to a search engine and type in "volunteer vacations", and you will get a few websites that offer help to do what you are trying to do. It also offers discounts for airfare, government funding, etc.

I remember reading an article on yahoo about a month or so ago about things like that.

Martha Said:

I have a masters degree in education and want to know if I can teach in the US?

We Answered:

It depends on what state you move to. Each state regulates the teachers in that state. For California, you would need your Bachelor's Degree and Masters Degree evaluated by a company that would convert it to US standards, you would then need to pass the CBEST (basic skills test), and maybe take the CSET (specific subject matter test). You might also need to take classes on classroom instruction. It's a long process. Good luck if you decide to do it.

Misty Said:

should i get a masters degree in education? and what are all the benefits when you get it?

We Answered:

Candidates with a masters will be hired before people with a bachelors. Also, with a masters you can be a principal once you get tired of classroom teaching.

Edgar Said:

What is the difference between going to teachers college and getting a "Masters Degree in Education"?

We Answered:

Teacher's college usually refers to the BEd degree that you earn to become a teacher. In Ontario we've got a one-year consecutive education program (one that I am currently in) which is a one year program focused exlusively on education and is given after one already has earned a 3 or 4 year bachelors degree. The other is a concurrent education program where students pursue their own majors while taking education courses over the period of 3 or 4 years (usually starting 2nd or 3rd year) and in the end they graduate with the same two degrees that I will have after I finish my consecutive ed program, a BA (or BSc, or BFA etc.) and a BEd.

A Master's degree is a graduate degree in education. Ontario requires a Master's degree to pursue a more administrative role such as principal or VP. Most young teachers that I know are pursueing their MEd's part time in the eveninigs and summers while they are teaching full time. That's probably something that I am going to look into.

You can't get an MEd to my knowledge without having a BEd, and there is no reason to get an MEd if you don't want to have some sort of career in education, be it as a teacher, administrator, working in a school, working for the school board, working for the ministry of education etc.

Roy Said:

Is a Masters in Education degree easy to be obtained?

We Answered:

You did not specify if it is the MEd or the MSEd. No matter.

Let me put it this way. Get credential, pass state licensing board exams, get job. get job to pay for SSA or PhD (the EdD is a waste of time) then get promoted. Simple.

As long as your degree is accredited, dont worry about how 'easy' it was for you. I found my PhD in education to be easy (classes anyway) but some of my peers found it hard. maybe you just 'get it' quicker.
