Masters Degree In Nursing

Marjorie Said:

how long does it take to get your masters degree in nursing?

We Answered:

I know my MPA is taking a little longer than 2 years. I am taking on average 2 courses per semester, 3 semesters a year (summer school is included). This fall I will take 3 classes and my first semester and last I will have taken only 1 course.

In short, it depends on if you need to take pre-requisites, and how many courses you take at a time. But on average 2 years.

Jordan Said:

How much longer will it take to get to a masters degree in nursing?

We Answered:

Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a 2 year program with a prerequisite of a bachelor's degree, favorably in nursing. Many schools also offer a joint MSN/MBA program which is about 3 years in duration (you shave off about 1 year had you taken them separately), so you can earn them both relatively quickly. The MBA will help a lot if you plan to move away from the clinical portions of nursing and into hospital management instead.

Frederick Said:

what masters degree in nursing is in the most demand?

We Answered:

I understand that critical care ICU nurses are very much in demand. There is also a great need for surgical nurses in the operating room. I believe the field you get into should reflect your interests and passions, as well as the opportunities available.

Violet Said:

Can you become a nurse by getting a masters degree in nursing and not bachelors?

We Answered:

Yes, that is a possibility. Like the answerer above said, you will have to find out the requirements for the specific masters programs you want to apply for. But most people who get their masters in nursing aren't planning on being a nurse, they plan on teaching nursing or becoming a nurse practitioner. Also, you could consider another career. Because if you are willing to get a master's degree, you could be doing something better than nursing. You could be an occupational therapist or a physical therapist, or a physician's assistant. Those jobs are highly rewarding, and better paying.

Arnold Said:

Is getting a masters degree in nursing to be a nurse practitioner as challenging as earning a bachelor's degr?

We Answered:

Much much harder. You need to actually learn to diagnose and treat illness, write Rxs etc. You will learn medicine (not just more nursing)
