Medical Assistant Degrees

Bobbie Said:

Can you be a Medical Assistant with a Nursing degree?

We Answered:

YOu could always apply to a MA job BUT you should only expect to be paid what the MA rate is and you should be careful to not work outside the scope of practice of a MA--that is you could not function at the full duties of a RN if you were hired into a non-RN job (this has to do with legal liability). SOOOO; it's not cost-effective to be a RN & work as a MA :P

Erica Said:

How many years will it take to become an R.N., if i have a medical Assistant degree?

We Answered:

They are two different programs. Credits from your medical assisting program don't usually transfer to an RN program, but you can check with the school to be sure. An Associate's Degree in Nursing takes about 2 years from start to finish, if you go full-time.

Are you getting a degree, a diploma or a certificate in Medical Assisting...just double-checking.

EDIT: Ok, if you are working on an associates in applied science for medical assisting, then you can finish that and start nursing school immediately. You don't have to wait. If you really want to be a nurse and not an MA, you might want to consider dropping the classes you are in and get enrolled in a nursing program. There are lots of prerequisites you have to take before you would be accepted for the ADN training, so keep that in mind.

Medical assistant question with tech degree?

We Answered:

It depends on the area that you live. I got my assoc. degree in medical assisting and moved. When I moved, Medical Assistants were the same thing as a nursing assistants. I went to school for nothing really. If you are interested in the clerical part of med. assist. then I would suggest not going to school for that. The state that I got my assoc degree throught of medical assistants as the same rank of an LPN. When I moved, I was below the bottom of the totem pole when it came to my degree. If I were you, I would skip med assist. and go straight into radiology if that is what you want to do. In my opinion, it is a waste of money to do CMA work. They tell you it will be so exciting and this and that will happen but once you actually get into it, it is nothing like what you think. Being certified gets you about 30 cents an hour more (which isn't worth paying money to go take the certification exam) If the medical field is what you want, either go into radiology and pursue that or look into getting your assoc. degree as an LPN. If in the future, you want to add to your LPN and become an RN, you can. You can't go any further (as far as education) with a med. assist. degree.

Associate degrees, would it be better to obtain a Medical Assistant degree of a Business Administration?

We Answered:

Medical assistants are at the bottom of the food chain, and have virtually no potential for upward job mobility. They are lucky to get minimum wage.
Business Administration has a great potential for advancement, and entry level jobs are in the 30K range. Good luck!

Carmen Said:
