nursing degree requirements.. where are all of the science courses?

These are the pre-reqs for UIC CON. You cannot become an official Nursing major until your Junior year. Admission is very competitive.
You do not have to take the standard Organic Chem courses, Chem 232/234, but you do have to take a survey course of organic and biochem, Chem 130.

Kathleen Said:

Is a nursing degree just a college degree with a major in nursing? How does it work?

We Answered:

No, it is separate school and our way of diagnosing and looking at health care are completely different perspectives. It IS a Bachelor's (or even Associate's) degree, but it is not like regular college.
Once you graduate nursing school ( 40 hour a week program) you must take the NCLEX to have a license.

Do i satisfy the requirements for a nursing degree?

We Answered:

You absolutely do qualify for entry into the degree. When I applied for my occupational therapy degree I had 4 levels (grades A to C) and I got in with no problems.

Your extra experience at the hospice is a great bonus and it will definately help you to gain a place.

Nursing is a great and rewarding profession, but challenging. But by the sounds of things, you've got the right qualities to make a great nurse! The best of luck with your studying and career!

Jerome Said:

If I have an associates degree in nursing, what requirements would I have to fulfill to get a BSN degree?

We Answered:

Find the college you want to attend, they usually have the info you need on their website, if they don't, make an appointment to speak with an advisor at the college.

Nursing Degree?

We Answered:

Here in sunny California it takes being accepted to a program, two years of classes unless you want a Bachelor's in Nursing which would be two years longer, and then passing the test for the license/registry.

There are waiting lists for all the good nursing schools, so that is a hurdle. Not passing the classes, especially the math and science ones, caused several people in my husband's nursing class to be removed. A few people couldn't handle chopping up the dead cat in Anatomy, and a few more left after they decided needles were too creepy.

Lots of the people who couldn't make the grade as a RN got a CNA instead. One student got arrested partway through the program and she also went the CNA route since her conviction made it impossible for her to ever be a RN.

Once you make it through and are offically a RN, get ready to be checking your mailbox. Job offers will come flying in with a ton of junk, if you are like my hubby, because the people at the registry sold our address to junkmailers.

Edited to add that CNAs go to college like the RN, but their classes are lots easier.
