Occupational Therapist Degree
Wayne Said:
What kind of master's degree does an occupational therapist need?We Answered:
You do not need a masters degree. You need a Bachelor's of Kinesiology in Occupational Therapy.Elsie Said:
Can I become an occupational therapist with my BA psychology degree or will I need totake more classes? We Answered:
I have a BS in Psych, and pretty much you have 2 options. Either become a lab assistant for someone with a higher degree, or go all the way to your doctoral degree in it.A bach in psych is a wonderful thing to have - like an instruction book to the human mind - but it won't get you very far on merit. If you find a generic job, a degree in psych will show that you are smart, and can stick with a program.
There are more physical /anatomy oriented classes that you will need to become an OT.
Nancy Said:
How do you become an Occupational Therapist if you've already graduated from college with a different degree? We Answered:
Actually having a degree in psych can boost your odds of being accepted into an OT program. Since part of the OT curriculum is psych related, it helps to have that background.Go to this website and you can click on the state you live in, etc. it will tell you about the prereqs at the college of your choice needed for OT program acceptance. http://www.aota.org/Students/Schools/Ent…
Usually it is 2 and a half years of school after your prereqs to become registered as an occupational therapist.----in the mean time, go job-shadow an OT and do volunteer work at a hospital or clinic that offers OT, most schools REQUIRE some sort of volunteer work under the supervision of an OT before you can be accepted into their program. GOOD LUCK! :)

Does anyone know how much an Occupational therapist with a Masters degree make?We Answered:
I am in an Occupational Therapy program at my college, going for my masters. The instructors are telling us to prepare to make aobut 50,000 out of school, then after a while up to around $75,000 per year. Hope that helps!Joann Said:
What should I major in for my undergraduate degree if I want to become an occupational therapist? We Answered:
I've never heard of pre-occupational therapy. At our college we have an excellent OT department. You go for 2 years taking specific undergrad requirements and classes needed to qualify for the OT program. Then, after your first 2 years of those classes, apply to the program. The next 2 years is spent finishing your undergrad degree in OT and then if you want you can get a Masters degree, but you don't absolutely have to, but the pay will be better. Special Education is great if you like to work with special populations. Psychology will require a Masters degree at minimum to get a good paying job. You can get a degree in Early Childhood Development usually through a 2-year college or a 4 year degree through an Education Department. The jobs are rewarding, but don't pay as well as an OT. Hope that helped. Good Luck with your education!
