Online Art History Degree
Eduardo Said:
Thinking about an online degree to get a good career but I'm a new mom...?We Answered:
Don't go to a complete online college. Most online colleges like University of Phoenix, Devry, ITT Tech, etc. Their degrees aren't worth much and employers don't hire people who hold such degrees. Go to your local community college or state college and see if they offer online classes.General education courses like Freshman Composition, Sophomore Composition, Math, Science, social science credits and humanities credits are frequently offered online at many community and state colleges. So you can do your first two years online for the most part. For your last two years you will need to go to the campus.
An alternative: To save money you ought to try taking the CLEP exams. They are standardized exams given at many community colleges and state universities. Even private universities have them. Its around $72 and you get credit if you pass the class. They have them for everything from Freshman Composition, to Economics, College Algebra, Intro to Sociology, Intro to Psychology. If you study on your own then you don't have to take the class. You save money, you save time, you can graduate early in some cases.

Go for a useful degree like in accounting, nursing, programming, etc. Degrees like English are hard to market and most humanities/liberal arts majors end up jobless. Usually if someone graduates with a bachelor's degree in accounting, nursing, programming, engineering doesn't really need to go to graduate school for an advanced degree. A bachelor's degree in these subjects sets them into the middle class.

EDIT: Try to go to your community/state college and see if they grant credits a different way. Some grant credit through work experience, etc. Get your college catalog, flip through it and see the various ways of getting credit.
Sometimes these are buried deep within the catalog, because colleges don't want too many people finding ways to get credit without taking the class. They would rather that people shell out their money to take the courses.

Art History Major/Career/Info?We Answered:
If you mean share your experience with other major as in credit and so on, then yes- but only certain courses. It depends on the school you go to as well. I am currently at SCAD and usually credits only carry over if the major you are taking have similar courses with the art history major you are trying to get. For me, I'm doing sequential art, and the courses are similar to those of animation. That way I can share credit and reduce the time for a double major- or minor. You can always search online on wikipedia because it usually has links to biographers and sites on specific artistis. This one artistis I found, Paul Klee, has a page where you can click on a play button and it pronounces the artist's name for you. For art history, a second language is preferred since many artists are forgeign, but such requirements aren't really necessary. My art history teacher does not know a second language but he sti still very knowledgeable in the field. Good luck, and sorry if my answer to your questions aren't sufficient.Marsha Said:
Where can i get an associates degree ONLINE for art historian or anything to do with art or history? We Answered:
Look into local community colleges. Most of them offer online courses, and finding art history courses online shouldn't be too difficult (especially if you live in an metropolitan area.) You might also find something at a four-year school, most offer art history, but be prepared to pay much more than at a community college.Be wary of online "colleges" that don't have a physical campus. And consider taking some of your classes on campus, either during the day or at night.

What do you need to do in order to become an art museum curator? We Answered:
You absolutely would need an art history degree of some sort. Depending on the school you can minor in something like Museum Studies, Preservation, Restoration, or Library Science as stated above. Often you would need at least a Graduate degree and often a PHD, depending on the museum you are wishing to work at. Even if you are not a curator, there are many other interesting positions available in museums. If you live near a city, go to the museum and ask questions. People are always willing to help! If you have any other related questions feel free to email me and I'll try to give what I know! I hope you major in art history, it's such a fantastic field and makes my heart beat!Esther Said:
Online BA in Art History? We Answered:
You're smart to be wary of those schools. Stick to brick and mortar unis that offer online degrees, and you should be okay.Mansfield U is the only uni that I know of that has an online/distance degree specifically in art history. And they're a real university, appropriately accredited.

I have a BA in Art History, but finding a job has been extremely difficult. Suggestions? We Answered:
You cannot teach with a BA in art history unless you have primary or secondary certificates or move to states such as Florida and Georgia, or other states that are so desperate for teachers that they only look for a BA. Getting into a museum is very difficult for anyone, but even more difficult for those without experience, an MA, or a Ph.D. I suggest going to all of the local galleries to network and hand out resumes. With your retail experience, it is possible to obtain a position in a museum gift shop, which would more than likely be hourly, but it would at least get your foot in the door. Also, apply for "odd" jobs at museums and don't be afraid to apply to teach children's activities at museums and galleries as this will also get your foot in the door. One last piece of advice: purchase the book "Great Jobs for Art Majors." Good luck!Leo Said:
art history masters programs online? We Answered:
Unfortunately you won't find one. Art History requires such intense experiences that online study is impossible. Further, to study Art History at the graduate level, you need to be proficient in at least one preferably two European languages (French, German, Italian).
