Online Business Degree

Pearl Said:

What is the best (most legitimate) way of getting my business degree online?

We Answered:

Find a bricks and mortar university and sign up. Many classes you can take on-line. Others you will have to attend in person. If you are going to spend time and money on a degree do it from an accredited university, or your degree will be worthless. On-line degrees are not respected, and most are meaningless. Marjorie Said:

are online business degree useful in the workforce?

We Answered:

It all depends entirely on the school. There are some online programs that are exceedingly easy to get in to and some that are very hard. Some will take anyone with a checkbook, others only take the best and brightest.

Same with costs, there are programs at around $5000 and others that will run you near $100K.

Places like Duke University teach online (neither easy to get into or cheap) and places like UPhoenix and DeVry (Keller) teach online (not cheap but pretty easy to get into). Then there are places like UMass and UFlorida and Florida State that teach online and they are reasonably priced and reasonable to get into.

As for usefulness; this too depends on the source of the degree but also depends on your own motivations. If you get an MBA from Duke and then get yourself a job tending bar at Joe's - you won't find the MBA all that beneficial.

Harvey Said:

Will getting a business degree at this online college help me attain a better job.?

We Answered:

As long as the college is accredited your degree will meet the requirement for a degree for most employers.

More and more colleges are going to multiple delivery formats. Colleges like University of Phoenix and Devry have been pioneers in this arena. They do it better than most. For business, this format should be ok.

As far as "respected", it relative to who is doing the hiring. Also keep in mind the military, for example, recognizes these type of schools, and encourages their use because of the flexibility.

I believe we are going to see the way colleges and Universities deliver their studies. As technology improves it's becoming less and less relevant to be physically located on a campus, especially with the global economy.

Working on a degree online is actually much harder. The requirements are not less stringent. You have to be much more disciplined. The way Phoenix does it is closer to how corporate education is conducted. Also, in addition to a degree, corporations want professional certification.

The short answer, a degree from the U of Phoenix will get you past the "gatekeepers"!

The traditional "college campus" is not real life!

Gerald Said:

what is the best online college to get a degree in business?

We Answered:

Why is it that the links people provide in these posts (such as the links in the posts by some) always "recommend" one of the for-profit colleges and never mention the traditional non-profits. Do these people really believe that a BS in Bus from Strayer is "better" than one from UMass or UTexas? No, they don't - they're getting paid for the click through.

So, OwnPool is correct - if you have to go online then the best choice in respectability and cost will be your local state U. The most respectable will be the traditional colleges that also teach online - there are 1000's. The least respectable (and often least useful) will be the for-profit colleges.

Online education isn't new and mysterious anymore. Nearly every college teaches online these days. And, I do mean "every". Many of those also offer the entire degree online. They do fed financial aid, easy online admission, flexible class schedules, etc... just like the for-profits.

So first take a look at what's offered in your state from your state U. Places like UMass, Florida, UTexas, CalState (CSU), and tons more are all offering degrees online these days and business is the most common subject. It's just the normal way things are now and becoming more "normal" each semester that passes.

http://www.umassonline.net/ U Mass (online)
http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/ U Florida (online)
http://www.uwplatt.edu/disted/ U Wisconsin (Platteville) (online)

there are examples like that in every state.

Add: Sorry PE, typo - OwnPool is correct, PE may answer later. ?
