Online Communications Degree

Julia Said:

Does anyone know of any schools where I can train online for a degree in communications?

We Answered:

Oh yes! E-learners.com is the best site, check it out. I and many others use this.

I hope you benefit from it as well.

Gina Said:

Accredited Online college for communications?

We Answered:

Accreditation and online colleges do not go hand in hand.

Ramon Said:

Any know if AIU is reputable for an online degree?

We Answered:

According to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) website, AIU is accredited but on probation. Probation is the highest punishment SACS will give other than denying accreditation. AIU was placed on probation in December 2005. By December 2006, AIU was still found to be in non-compliance and their probation was extended one year. Two years is the maximum amount of time SACS will allow a school to remain on probation. If AIU does not fix the very serious non-compliance issues, they will lose accreditation in December 2007. At that point, a degree from AIU will be useless. I highly recommend that all current students transfer schools immediately. I also recommend that prospective students consider other schools before AIU.

Andre Said:

Where can I find a good online school that offers photography or communications degree.?

We Answered:

OwnPool - why can't photography be taught online? Photo teachers don't go out on assignment with the students - they simply evaluate the results of a shooting. Professional photographers work online all-the-time shooting far away from their supervision.

Comms - one of two areas that employers are screaming right now that they simply can't get enough applicants for. That whole "ability to communicate well orally and in writing" thing that you see on 3/4 of all help wanted ads. Sounds like a good skill to have to me. Math is the other thing they can't seem to find enough of.

Add the online component and you have yet another thing employers can't seem to find enough of - people that know technology and can work without direct supervision.

Photography: Savannah College of Art and Design and Academy of Art University (San Francisco) are teaching online. Neither is inexpensive. Both are legitimate. Make sure you read about what sort of money photographers earn before you get a degree in the field. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos264.htm#earni… it's pretty low money for a college grad. Journalism is a bit better.

Communication: It's a broad field and much depends on which subfield you want to enter. It's being taught online at all sorts of places. UC-Berkeley offers a cert in Editing online for example. Take a look at a search tool such as Petersons http://www.petersons.com/distancelearnin… for some ideas. If you do Comms make sure you do a minor or specialization in something useful - otherwise you become qualified to "talk about talking and write about writing" which isn't as valued as being able to write about finance or science (for example) or to talk in the form of marketing and sales.

Eddie Said:

What are some good online universities that offer a bachelors degree in Communications?

We Answered:

Corban
East Carolina University
Montana State U. - Billings
Northern Arizona U.
Oregon State
Southern New Hampshire U.
SUNY Oswego
U. Denver
U Wisconsin - Superior
U Maryland - University College
U. Pittsburgh
Washburn

Way more choices than those heavily advertised options.

add: I think someone below here is stuck in 1981... wake up - DL is here and you're stuck with it. "Most" are not for-profit, most are public universities with outstanding programs.
