Danny Said:

Online Degree Computer studies?

We Answered:

Are you looking to get a degree or simply for courses to work through a specific issue. If you are looking for troubleshooting a specific issue I would do a search on google or yahoo for courses on the specific problem. If you are looking for a degree I think there are a number of highly rated colleges that offer what you are looking for.

Duane Said:

Can anyone verify if ads for work from home just need a computer and/or ads about online degrees are true?

We Answered:

Two part question - two part answer :)

Part 1 - Most people who work at home and are successful are doing one of two things - getting paid a commission on everyone they convince to join the program (also known as MLM or pyramid plans) OR they have their own business. Your own business is something you create yourself, not find on the internet. You create it based on your skills, your passions not on what someone else tells you is the GREATEST thing going.

Part 2 - Online degree programs may give you a real degree - but most employers don't agree. Employers do value degrees from some places more than others. An "ivy league" university is better than a community college. Online degrees are only worth while when issued by a regular school, rather than one that is predominantly online.

Tiffany Said:

Are online universities that offer computer degrees acceptable to employers?

We Answered:

I would regard online universities as the absolute last resort for someone seeking higher education.

The quality of education these programs offer is minimal - there is simply no substitute for the kind of dynamic interactions and discussions that commonly occur in face-to-face college courses. Also, the quality of educator is significantly less at online universities - the best faculty choose to teach at real colleges and universities. Both the pay and work environments are far superior to online universities. So, for great classes from great instructors, go to a real college or university.

Also, because of the minimal training they offer, employers and graduate institutions place little value in degrees earned from online programs. Many of these programs lack even basic accreditation for the degree programs they offer.

Bottom line - you will receive little if any personal or professional benefit from online universities relative to what you could have received from a real college or university.

Yolanda Said:

Are there any online degrees for computer programming?

We Answered:

You haven't mentioned the level of degree you are interested in. In case of bachelor's degree, I don't think there is any degree specially for computer programming. You will find a degree of computer engineering which will cover various computer aspects like computer programming, database, algorithms, networking etc. After getting bachelor's you can opt for master's in specific field.

Randall Said:

Where can you get a quality online computer degree that will be taken seriously by companies?

We Answered:

I got two of my degrees in person (BS and AA in data process), but am getting my MS degree now from a local college that offers most of its classes online. As long as you pick a college that is well-known, you'll be ok with a degree from them. But don't pick one of the "on-line only college programs", they are considered a joke.

What are the hottest jobs in IT? Not programming right now, since those jobs are being outsourced. But lots of baby boomers are retiring, and people are scared off from IT, so we're going to have a huge IT need in the next few years, since IT college programs are at very low enrollments right now.

According to the US Dept of Labor, these are the some of the fastest growing occupations for 2004-2014 (they usually require a bachelors degree and usually make over $43,000):

1) Computer scientists and network systems and data communications analysts (its hard to outsource figuring out your local network configuration)
2) Computer software engineers, applications
3) Computer software engineers, systems software (people making the software that runs the programs, that run financial programs)
4) Network and computer systems administrators (Folks in charge of the network analysts and techs)
5) Computer scientists and database administrators (database folks will always get the top jobs, it's difficult work)
6) Computer systems analysts

Good luck!
