Online Doctorate Degrees

Jessie Said:

Do any schools have online doctorate or phd programs?

We Answered:

I think we're still too soon to see the PhD wholly or substantially online here in the states, not because of quality but because of demand and availability of resources. We'll see the EdD wholly online soon at even more schools. The exceptional choices at the master's level is growing - Johns Hopkins now has their master's online.

For a DBA or PhD in business, what I've found (and am sure you have too) is:
UoP
Capella
Northcentral
Nova-Southeastern
Fielding
Touro
Walden

clearly all legit but not the cream of the crop. (brother Kalos can't read and skipped this line)

If an EdD will meet your needs:
the above and...
Northern Arizona
U Montana
Utah State
Liberty
Mississippi State
New Mexico State
Pepperdine

If a non-US degree will do then take a look at the University of South Africa.

If you've thought about I/O Psych and HR Dev. then there are a few good psych programs out there for the PsyD and PhD.

Ben Said:

how authentic are the universities offering degrees online?

We Answered:

Universities offering online degrees are very authentic. Businesses that offer "life experience" degrees are very questionable.

http://www.universaldegrees.com/ is a business that offers "degrees" based on your experiences in life. They fill a need for people that need to boost their own ego by insisting that their own experiences are somehow equal to having spent 10 years in college studying and researching.

There's a reason that employers have separate requirements for experience and education; the reason is that work experience isn't education and education isn't work experience. This is the reason that "life experience degrees" have no validity and also why most jobs want experience AND a degree.

If you want a degree - go to college. If you want work experience - go to work. Don't confuse the two though.
