Terrence Said:

How do I find online health administration jobs that will allow me to work from home?

We Answered:

A site I found helpful is http://www.workathomedesk.com - It is a free site that has a good directory of companies that hire telecommuters. Hope this helps you find what you are looking for! Remember to never pay to get a job or any type of fee upfront. Good luck!

We Answered:

Try your local community college for the best tuition prices.

Christian Said:

I am looking into an online degree for Health care Admin or Management. ?

We Answered:

Most employers make no distinction between an AA or an AS. The only difference (typically) is that more liberal arts courses are included in an AA degree plan.

Here is Wikipedia's take on it:

"An Associate of Arts degree is often awarded for programs that are intended for transfer to a four-year college or university, usually with a major in the social sciences or humanities, but may be awarded as a terminal degree.

The Associate of Science degree is similarly awarded to terminal students or to potential transfer students to a four-year college or university, but the areas of concentration are usually in mathematics, natural sciences, or technology."

Is an online degree in health Care from Penn foster College recognized in Chicago land area?

We Answered:

Unfortunately, Penn Foster is not an AHDI-approved (Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity) program.

If your hoping to get into this field you will most likely need training from an AHDI 'approved' program. Most employers require experience or participation in one of the top AHDI approved schools. If your looking into Medical Transcription pay the extra in tuition to attend an 'approved' school.

Many people have received training through inadequate programs only to find out that they are unable to find a job. AHDI sets the standards for MT courses. Employers know that graduates of these 'approved' courses have gained the skills necessary to begin their career as an MT. ------ AHDI is the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity - www.ahdionline.org (formerly known as the American Association for Medical Transcription).

I attended Career Step and recieved a job (at-home) less than a week after graduating. I've received several more job offers since, but have stuck with my original employer because of the flexibility they offer. Career Step is an AHDI approved program and they are partnered with many of the major MT employers. In other words, their graduates get the jobs. Many companies require 2-3 years experience, however, a lot of these companies will waive this requirement if you graduate from the right school.

I recommend CS because they are partnered with MANY employers, self-paced (you can finish in a few months or take as long as over a year or two), and more affordable than many courses. Plus, I have personal experience (and success) with the program. Attending your local community college will give you a good chance at a job in-house, but if you are wanting to work from home, an online 'approved' course is the way to go. Choosing the right school is so important! They do offer financial aid and payment plans. :)

The US Department of Labor states" Employment of medical transcriptionists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2006 to 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for medical transcription services will be spurred by a growing and aging population. Older age groups receive proportionately greater numbers of medical tests, treatments, and procedures that require documentation. A high level of demand for transcription services also will be sustained by the continued need for electronic documentation that can be shared easily among providers, third-party payers, regulators, consumers, and health information systems. Growing numbers of medical transcriptionists will be needed to amend patients’ records, edit documents from speech recognition systems, and identify discrepancies in medical reports."

"Wage-and-salary medical transcriptionists had median hourly earnings of $14.40 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $12.17 and $17.06. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $10.22, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $20.15."

Questions about degrees online in health care etc.?

We Answered:

You "might" be able to complete an online degree and eventually attend medical school, but it will challenging.

1) Medical schools require students to take several science courses with labs during their undergraduate years
2) Medical school admissions are already tough enough, earning an online degree "might" put you at a certain disadvantage
3) Some medical schools may limit the number of distance education / correspondence / online courses that may be taken.

Online Degree

That said, if you still want to try, do not worry about studying health care administration, unless you just like that field. Medical schools admit students from a broad range of backgrounds... ranging from history to art and everywhere in between.

Extracurriculars

Admissions' committees like to see well-rounded students who participate in college life. That's hard to do online. If you still go that route, get involved with the community or at your church, etc.

Sciences / Labs

You will have to take your sciences/labs at a local college. There's no way of getting around that.

My opinion (for what it's worth)

Personally, I wouldn't go the online route if your plans are to become a medical doctor. If you were actually referring to a PhD, then by all means, enroll in the online bachelor program of your choice. Medical School is just so competitive and you might be putting yourself at a disadvantage by studying online.

Online Colleges

If you want to check out some different online colleges, I have several hundred listed on my blog:

Terri Said:

Can any HEALTH RELATED Degrees be done online?

We Answered:

unless you are taking online classes from an accredited college/university you are wasting your time.
there are numerous classes that are required for these degrees that are offered online by the college or university that you attend but many of the classes, labs, lectures require your presence on campus in a classroom.... clinical require that you be physically at the institution/facility where the clinicals' are being performed....

many of these programs require volunteer experience or actual employment in related fields prior to being accepted into the program....

many if not all of these medical related certificates that are advertised on the Internet are useless....
if the classes/credits you take from the online school won't transfer to a state university then the certificate you receive is most likely useless.......

Discuss It!
