The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) does not accredit online programs at this time CSWE is the accrediting body for social work, and many states will not allow you to apply for licensure unless your program was accredited by CSWE.

You're better off going to a State University for your MSW. It's a versatile degree, and barring living in a very small place, you'll always find work. You're better off getting the real thing.

The degree you require is being offered by various online institutions like Capella University, University of Phoenix, Walden University etc. I believe they assign you projects with a deadline but i dont think that is the case on weekly basis. There aren't online degrees for social work because it's a job that requires personal interaction. Employers want to make sure that the people they hire are good at their job, have good references, and are good at dealing with people (the social part of social work). Therefore, you just cannot get an online degree that vouches for your personality and qualifications. If you find one, don't do it; it's probably a scam or unaccredited. Whether or not the degree says online, employers know the names of online schools, so it'll be clear where you got your degree.

I am sorry, but you are not going to find an accredited program online. There are many agencies that will not hire an individual who has received their degree via the internet because the field is very direct practice. Also, nearly all of the internet degrees, if not all of them, do not have the seal of approval from the Council of Social Work, which means that you would not be able to be called a social work, and you would not have an actual BSW even though you may have a strong foundation for the education you are not receiving the direct practice experience, which is by far the most important.

There are no degree's offer fully online. There are a number of accredited distance education programs (You can find these at CSWE.org) but they all have some residency requirements.

Because all accredited social work programs require an internship, it is impossible to complete the entire degree online. However, some programs do offer many of their classes online. I have heard of some online social work programs, but they will not be accredited by the CSWE. No reputable agency will hire a person with a degree from a college that is not accredited.
