Physical Therapy Online Degree

Martha Said:

How long does it take to get a bachelors degree in physical therapy?

We Answered:

PT is no longer offered at the BS level in the US. Most programs are now doctorate programs, but there are still a few master's degree programs...average length is 6-7 years.

Not offered online (although a modified online course exists through Unviveristy of St. Augustine.)

Pauline Said:

How long are online physical therapy courses?

We Answered:

There's really no way to do it online. First, you would have to complete all your prerequisites such as biology, chemistry, physics and psych. There courses come with labs...something you must be on campus for.

Once you've completed your bachelor's degree, you can apply to the graduate program. There is an accredited web-based PT program run through the University of St. Augustine where you complete distance based learning modules, but you then need to attend labs every other weekend at the Florida or California campus. In this format, the professional phase lasts about 4 years instead of 3...so it would take you 8 years instead of 7.

Don't be fooled by these adverstisements here on yahoo for "online physical therapy education"...there are for a technician certificate...a program that lasts about 6 months. However, spending $800 to earn a certificate for a job where it isn't required and usually only pays minimum wage doesn't seem worth it to me.

I have a Physical educathin degree and i worket as a Physical Therapy in Israel Do i Have to Start agin from?

We Answered:

In the US, physical education is a completely different field from physical therapy. However, not knowing what "physical education" consists of in Isreal, perhaps they are similar. Furthermore, the PT degree in the US is now at least a master's degree. If the physical education degree from Isreal is a bachelor's degree, you have at least that requirement if it will transfer to the US (in most US PT programs, you must have at least a bachelor's degree to get into the PT program). However, you must also have the prerequisite courses including a year each of general chemistry, biology, and physics. You must also usually take various psychology, math and anatomy and physiology courses. Once you've done that, taken the TOFEL and GRE, you would be elligible for applying to a physical therapist education program...which are almost now all doctorate. You will not be able to do this online.

If you give me some course descriptions of what the PE degree in Isreal contains, I could probably better advise you. In the US, the PE degree is pretty much an education degree (they are commonly called "gym teachers") with a focus on physical fitness and is in no way related to physical therapy.

Kirk Said:

How many physical therapy aides went to an online college?

We Answered:

You can easily get this job without any formal training. As a PT, myself, I can tell you that none of our aides had any formal training...all were taught on the job.

I think it's kind of a waste of money for a job that only pays about $9-10 an hour.

If you wish to stay at home, I would see if your local community college offers a PTA (physical therapy assistant) program...it is a two year degree and there are many more job opportunities and you will almost double your salary as compared to a PT aide. However, you cannot complete it online...but it is a much more realistic option.

Good luck

June Said:

online college physical therapy?

We Answered:

In my opinion physical therapy is such a thing that shouldn't be done online. I can well understand your problem as I am an education consultant and know benefits offered by online education. But some things are best done otherwise not in online education.

Mabel Said:

can i work as a physical therapy assistant with a biology degree?

We Answered:

In order to be a PTA, you would need to go to school for two years. You would only waive your electives and anatomy and phys. You would be better off going for a DPT. It is three years and you probably have most of the classes. The only thing you may not have is a physics course .
