Public Administration Degree

Regina Said:

Is an MPA (master's public administration) degree difficult?

We Answered:

NO it is easy for you.
Whether course is interesting or boring is your perception.

Perry Said:

Is a degree in Public Administration considered a degree in Politics?

We Answered:

You bet it is! After Communication, you can pursue pub admin, American National Gov't, Political Journalism, and/or Poli Sci. Some people are massively ambitious and double/triple major nowadays or you can double/triple minor. Find the school with the best, most affordable program that incorporates your focal point, network like MAD!

Use your summers to intern and maybe half your junior year and full senior year to intern. The degrees are nice, but experience will really show you what its about. When you do intern, you may be able to get into CNN there, and if and when you do, you have to prove yourself, so hopefully you will have some A+research papers to add with your intern application.

Understand that working for a network is VERY stressful and sometimes unforgiving. Yet if you prepare well and are very focused, astute, and organized. You might just be that go-to person everyone talks about and climbing the ladder will not be too hard for you.

Delores Said:

Does a Public Administration degree require a lot of math?

We Answered:

The term "quantitative" means that you are using numbers instead of subjective, qualitative information. For the social sciences it will usually be statistics. Some Public Administration programs will require business math courses.

Both degrees are pretty usable, but not for the same things. Public Administration programs focus on the inner workings of government, non-profit agencies, and the like. A degree in PA will help you find jobs in places like hospitals, government, air ports, fire stations, etc. - all depending on how you have focused your studies. To get the most use out of PA, get your Master's in some field like Health or Aviation Administration.

Political Science is an academic field, not a vocational field. Unlike PA it doesn't really prepare you for any particular careers. Political Science is the most common preparation for law school. If you want to work out in the community, Political Science may help you but you will have to sell yourself.

Tammy Said:

is a public administration degree worth the time?

We Answered:

If you want to be mayor, city treasurer, city administrator this degree would be fine

for education and non-profit careers - this would not be the type of degree you would
want to pursue.
