Social Worker Degree Online
Johnnie Said:
seeking advice from employers online degree Vs traditional? We Answered:
I don't believe so. If it's Australia then to be able to offer something called a "Degree" the institution has to meet strict conditions to get that definition, which are set by the government and meet strict accreditation codes by whatever association represents social workers. You can check if the organisation has a CRICOS number.Courses are all going online to increase the target market, it's not unusual anymore, but you might need to ensure how they accomplish fieldwork and how you go about fulfilling any other in-person study criteria outside trad attendance. If you prefer to study with some colleges for their greater prestige start with them and ask what they can offer you. Apart from that the course has to teach you want you want to know or what you want to work in, so if it has units that match your future job criteria then you won't have any trouble as long as you list what subjects you did in the course.
I was in your situation in the mid-90s and there was one uni in the whole of Aust that had a "correspondence course" in what I wanted to do, and if it had not been available I would not have the degree because I would not consider traditional campus attendance.

Can you get a degree to be a social worker online? We Answered:
It is possibly offered by some online university but I would not recommend it. Maybe Im just biased because I have a University-based education. I will advice you, that if you really want to be a social worker, don't do it online, but in a real-life classroom. With professor to student interaction, you get a lot more feedback and are able to learn a lot more things about this field. A college degree in this area will arm you with a well-rounded education to address all issues pertaining to this job. Also, when business/governments hire for this position, they take into consideration where you got your degree from. A lot of online degree programs (actually most of them) are not accreditted. This means that those that hire don't consider them as legit degrees. If this is what you really want to do, take the first steps of achieving it at a community college. Talk to an advisor there, tell them your personal situation, and they can help you out in terms of finances and courses, etc.
Don't buy into many of these online degree scams... If you want to take courses online, talk to the advisor about taking online courses through a legit college/university.
Best of luck to you and your future!

What education do you need to be a Social Worker? We Answered:
I attended college on site, so I'm not sure about on line course work. I got my AA degree in pre psych. Then I went to a University to obtain my Bach Degree in Social Work and an undergrad in Psych. and Women's Studies. Then I received a Masters Degree in Psychology. I have no idea of how long it will take on Line took me 6 1/2 yrs of steady work to complete my degree. I'm not sure how on a online class room they would monitor you work with individuals. and I'm not sure how peole will accept you receiving a Masters on Line. Before starting I think I would call some places you intend to apply to and see what they have to say dor thsi type of degree, before I put money and effort into the work. to become a social worker what do you need to major in?We Answered:
If you need to become a social worker you need to get degrees like BSW and later on MSW. Attaining these degrees mean you can work as professional social worker. By this you can fulfill your dream or passion and also earn living to earn your bread and butter.Maxine Said:
Social Worker Degree or a Different Degree? We Answered:
In my opinion you should go for BSW and then MSW to become a professional social worker. You will get paid for the social work done by you. Both of the above degree will be should only be done if you are interested in doing social work. Degree in psychology should be done if you are interested in doing some other work. By doing degree in Psychology can do jobs like, being psychologist at hospitals, schools or colleges, medical clinics etc.So you should think what you want to do. Then decide upon the degree.
Louis Said:
What kind of degree do i need to become a social worker in my state? We Answered:
A bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) is the most common minimum requirement to qualify for a job as a social worker; however, majors in psychology, sociology, and related fields may qualify for some entry-level jobs, especially in small community agencies. Although a bachelor’s degree is sufficient for entry into the field, an advanced degree has become the standard for many positions. A master’s degree in social work (MSW) is typically required for positions in health settings and is required for clinical work as well. Some jobs in public and private agencies also may require an advanced degree, such as a master’s degree in social services policy or administration. Supervisory, administrative, and staff training positions usually require an advanced degree. College and university teaching positions and most research appointments normally require a doctorate in social work (DSW or Ph.D.).As of 2006, the Council on Social Work Education accredited 458 bachelor’s programs and 181 master’s programs. The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education listed 74 doctoral programs in social work (DSW or Ph. D.) in the United States. Bachelor’s degree programs prepare graduates for direct service positions, such as caseworker, and include courses in social work values and ethics, dealing with a culturally diverse clientele and at-risk populations, promotion of social and economic justice, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and services, social work practice, social research methods, and field education. Accredited programs require a minimum of 400 hours of supervised field experience.
Master’s degree programs prepare graduates for work in their chosen field of concentration and continue to develop the skills required to perform clinical assessments, manage large caseloads, take on supervisory roles, and explore new ways of drawing upon social services to meet the needs of clients. Master’s programs last 2 years and include a minimum of 900 hours of supervised field instruction or internship. A part-time program may take 4 years. Entry into a master’s program does not require a bachelor’s degree in social work, but courses in psychology, biology, sociology, economics, political science, and social work are recommended. In addition, a second language can be very helpful. Most master’s programs offer advanced standing for those with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited social work program.
Hope this helps.
