Speech Therapist Degree

Marcus Said:

What kind of associates degree do I need to earn to eventually become a speech therapist?

We Answered:

Maybe try Speech Communications. But you will need more that an AA to get a job. Probably at least a BA or an MA. All the therapists (physical, occupational, family counseling) I know have a Masters.
There are two different kinds of Communications degrees, one that involves journalism, advertising, public relations, I have a BA in that, it mainly involves written communications. But they also have a degree program in Speech Conmmunications at the college I attended (Cal State Fullerton).
Either way, talk to a speech therapist and make sure you understand all the ins and outs of the job and the person you interview should tell you the best program to go into.

We Answered:

You will need to end up with a masters degree. There are many bachelors degree programs to get you started. They may have different names...speech pathology, speech and hearing, speech commucnications, etc. After that, you will need to continue to get your masters.

It's a great field! You can work in so many different environments. Good luck!

You might take sign language classes..but you'll def take science classes..either 1 or 2 math classes..audiology..phonology..prolly an intro to slp class..every school is different and offers different courses for the degree.
