There are two universities in Australia have Marine Science departments - James Cook and the University of Queensland. UQ have a number of stations on islands in and around Townsville/Cairns so its no all based in Brisbane. If you are interested in Aquaculture then University of Tasmania is what you are looking for.

David: USyd is not a good university to study Marine Biology - it is taught as an elective with no week-long study trips. There is no research being conducted in this subject which is the international indicator as to the quality of the teaching in a subject. In subjects like Pure mathematics/Physics/genetics/english/hum… where you look at pure research and not applied - the older universities are the best - but this (Marine Science) is not a pure area - its applied and so you need to look for the university that is best suited = which is UQ and JCU.

To teach in a high school you need a Bachelor of Education (4 year degree). To teach in a university you need a PhD. To teach in a technical college (TAFE) you need a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and experience not in teaching but in DOING. The Cert IV is required even if you have a PhD in Education. This is an Australian specific qualification that you cannot get anywhere else.

Australian students get reduced tuition, in some cases full-rides (but they need to pay for living expenses).

If you are not Australian then you will need to pay the full international student tuition/fees which is tremendously expensive.

It means that the course is not covered by HECS or FEE-HELP in other words EVERY student has to pay full fees up front for that degree. Most undergrad degrees are covered but in postgrad only Education directed at teaching (not research or admin or management) is covered but most of the other areas a postgrad degree is deemed something you need to pay for and claim it from tax.
