Web Development Degree

Clyde Said:

I took a computer programming class and was truly lost.Would it be unwise to seek a degree in web development?

We Answered:

It depends very much on your temperament. I don't want to dissuade you on one bad class, but you have to decide for yourself. Do you like figuring out how the computer works? Do you consider yourself very logical minded?

If understanding how information is processed is interesting, it will be worth the effort. If you find reading software boring, the job will drive you insane.

People who like to tinker do very well.

It might be worthwhile to try one other course, maybe in a difference language or at least with a different instructor. Since you are having trouble early, I wouldn't bet the farm though.

Julian Said:

Is a certificate or a 2yr degree in web development worth the time and money spent?

We Answered:

Yes you can obtain a job with these classes. There isn't much choice however. Unless you are planning on having a career in something specific that you need either a certificate or a AA degree then yes I would say it is waiting your time.
One example is my cousin, went to a school to become a medical assistant and she is (specific)
Another example is I heard that there is a job at a school being a tutor, it is a full time job and the only way you can get it is if you have a AA degree (two year). (unspecific example)

So there are choices and things out there. Two years isn't THAT much time and it can be time well spent.

Brian Said:

Is it important to have a degree in web page development?

We Answered:

Unless you are trying to get a job with a company that requires a bachelor's degree, I wouldn't really say it's necessary. In fact, with most computer related fields I think it's more important to know what you're doing than to have the degree.

If you have the know how, you could try getting a job at a web design firm, or you could do it freelance.

What might actually make you more marketable than a degree is certification in the relevant languages/programs. I don't know what certifications would apply specifically to web design, but you may already know enough to pass some of the exams.

Karl Said:

Is Kaplan University a reputable place to obtain a degree in web development?

We Answered:

Kaplan is a good choice Remember the saying that when there is no choice the decision is easy./

Guy Said:

how do i find a school for masters degree in web design or web development in NY?

We Answered:

WHY? Any High School grad can design web sites. Any Computer tech guy with a 2 year degree can also.

Getting a Master's Degree in something most students are exposed to from Middle School & on seems like you haven't done enough research.

I would think someone who's researching Master's Degree programs would know how to do such research without asking YA people. You would need to have a BA or BS degree first and take the graduate record exam to qualify for any Grad School first.

Scott Said:

web development degree?

We Answered:

I personally went to a technical school (DeVry) and got a Bachelors in Computer Information Services. Any computer programming degree would do just so long as you know how to program and have the expensive piece of paper to prove it.

If you are like me and suck at graphical design work, then you can either outsource to graphical design companies or hire a graphical designer. But this is another important aspect of web development some people tend to loo over.

Once you know 1 programming language though then the rest will follow suit if you just spend some time brushing up on the tools and coding styles.

Hope this helps :)
