Wildlife Management Degree
Hector Said:
I was wondering what kind of jobs can you get with a Wildlife management degree? We Answered:
The first type of job that comes to my mind is with the National Parks and Forest Service. You might gain employment at State and National parks. Don't just limit yourself to one state-see what else is out there! Good luck to you!Louis Said:
Can you be a wildlife biologist with a degree in Wildlife Management? We Answered:
Wildlife management is a degree you could get, but degrees in Zoology, Biology, Environmental Science, Fisheries and Wildlife Science, etc also work when looking to get a wildlife biologist job. A Fisheries and Wildlife Science degree is probably closest to what you're looking for. At least at my school, Oregon State University, you can specialize in many different areas in that degree, one being wildlife. However, it's not necessarily the degree that will get you that job as a wildlife biologist. I work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and I got a B.S. in Zoology. My coworker was a cultural diversity major.
Most organizations (such as the U.S. FS, FW, BLM) want you to have a certain number of semester/quarter credits in certain types of classes such as biology, botany, and zoology. If you've fulfilled those requirements, it doesn't really matter what your actual degree was.
Take a look at a few of the links I posted below. They show some specific requirements for the job.

What kind of jobs can you get with a degree in wildlife conservation and management? We Answered:
You could either go for the research route (will require an advanced degree--at least a Master's, and in most cases a PhD), or the "applied" route. Research jobs are mostly with universities and the government; "applied" jobs (i.e., regular non-research jobs) are often with non-profit or NGOs. There are good jobs out there, but conservation is not well-funded even though it's extremely important (see the other responses for the type of mindset you get to deal with all the time), and you should be prepared to do a lot of volunteer work to beef up your experience, so you'll be competitive for jobs. As for the jobs themselves--you can work in zoos, national/state/local parks, environmental education, animal rehabilitation, etc. Some good places to look for conservation jobs are the conbio.org job board, the StopDodo board (http://www.stopdodo.com/job_search/job_search_results.asp?cn=Conservation%2FNaturalist&c=122), and for more biology-based jobs, the Texas A&M Wildlife & Fisheries job board is good. Hope this helps!Tamara Said:

Does wildlife management deal with animal recuperation? ?We Answered:
Of course WM deals with helping endangered animals, heck it does on a major level. You have to look at the broad picture. WM teaches you how to keep populations in check, do biological research (take blood/fur/bone/dna samples) and so on and so forth... you just have to apply those basic skills to endangered species. For example say you do a population study on white tailed deer... you can apply the same knowledge and practices to the Davids deer which is an endangered species.
If you want to help with endangered species, you are ok where you at. You can also look into masters program or internships that deal with research on endangered species. If you cannot travel far many states have programs that deal with various fish and bird species.
It is just in college that the majority of your studies will revolve around species that are ok because they are easy to study on a mass scale in college.

which university in central indiana would be best for a bachelors degree in wildlife management? We Answered:
that is a good question sorry don't knowGail Said:
Is it possible to find a job in conservation (ex. Wildlife management) without a degree? We Answered:
Most likely not, especially if you want to work hands-on like being a biologist. These jobs are highly competative, even with a degree. You might be able to work an admin job in this field without a degree, but I think your best bet would be going back to school. Volunteering or trying to get an internship in this line of work would also be a great place to start.
