The fact that you have studied in Australia means nothing as NZ and Australia are two entirely separate and independent countries and have very different immigration regulations.

You will need to check if your occupation is on either the New Zealand Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) or their Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL). If it is, you also need to see if your qualifications meet New Zealand's requirements. Here are the two lists:

There are plenty of TAFE colleges that offer the course that you want. Have you decided which state you are interested to go to?

Well I guess it's good you've taken the time to think about your options- yes the US colleges would be much more competitive than the Australian ones.
Why not apply for both- if you're doubting getting accepted to the US one, then apply for both, maybe have your heart set on the Australian one (as you said, ONCE you check whether it's recognized in the US) and it will be an amazing accomplishment if you get accepted into the US college- if not strive for it in the future.

I'm guessing that you come from the sub-continent (India/Pakistan/Srilanka).

At this stage, it is quite hard for you to come to study in Australia for mid-year intake (July intake) since the student visa process in your country will take abt 3-6months. Therefore at this stage, you'll be better off aiming for February 2008 intake. Please check with the nearest Australian Embassy/High Commissions in your area.

The most important thing is actually to apply to the institution where you want to study in. To find out the course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia (choose 'Vocational College/Education'). Once decided on the institution, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year.

It is very hard to get to live in Australia. If you are thinking of migrating here, you need to look at the list of occupations we are currently looking for. Otherwise you won't get very far. There are many educational institutions here offering many different courses.

Main type of occupation we are needing at the moment are doctors and nurses.
