Normally for position of LSA an NVQ level 3 is preferred. This can be completed whilst you are in the role of LSA at your chosen school, by attending day release or night class. Going from the school means that they pay for your training and not you, which augments the pay scale of approx: £7.67 per hour.

I am actually graduating with a BA in Psychology this week. First it takes 4 years to get a BA in psych then you need to further your education by going to get a Master which may be 2 yrs depending on FT or PT. After you complete that you may have to have further training in the field that you are interested in. There are not alot of options for graduates with a psych BA so you will have to further your education. I suggest while you are still in college that you do internships and practicums prior to making a decision about what career path you want to take that way you don't end up in a field that you dislike. You will have a diploma when you finish college but like I said there is not alot of good jobs available for graduates with just a psych degree. It took a while to decide what I wanted to do with my degree but with the courses that I took and guidance from my adviser I realized the best path for me. It is something you will find super interesting and want to help the individuals in that demographic.

No, it wouldn't. In order to be able to practice child psychology professionally you need to have a good degree in psychology from a recognised university and a masters or doctorate in child/educational psychology. You also need to be a member of a recognised professional body which will vary depending on the country you live in. You will then need to gain professional experience working with someone more senior for at least a few years. It won't take less than 10 years before you are able to become self employed, but most people with these qualifications are employed by health authorities, local government or universities. You will also need to maintain membership of a professional body, be insured and have ongoing professional training. It is highly competitive and requires a very good degree as well as some experience of working with children.

A diploma in child psychology will not enable you to do anything professionally. It might help your understanding of children a little or you might want to do it just because you find it interesting. But it won't get you the career you're after.

A degree in psychology of any type is only one part of the process. You also have to get certified to provide service if you wish to do anything.

I would strongly discourage taking the on-line route for this field unless the school has a job placement program as well. I would say go to a Real World campus, part time if that is all you can do, and also do work as an intern or volunteer for an organization in the field you are trying to get in AT THE SAME TIME you are going to school. Your career counseling section at the school can help you with this.

The advantage of doing this is as follows:
1. Instant work experience in the field of study
2. Creditable hours toward your board certification for your field,
and
3. Sometimes you can get college credit in the way of cooperative education towards your degree.

On-line universities do not offer this ability.
