what is the current and projected job climate for primary school teachers in the uk?We Answered:
You are certainly not to old to apply for a PGCE and I would think that with your qualifications you would easily gain a place to train for one. There are not enough males in primary education. I have taught in several schools in which I was the only male - I once had to share a toilet with nuns - and the more men who can be encouraged to enter teaching at this age level the better, specially bearing in mind that there are thousands of boys and girls for that matter) being brought up with no recognisable father figure in their lives.
Some men seem to think that there is an inherent danger in teaching in junior and/or infant schools. There is not. I've done it since 1960 - and still do supply teaching - and have been accused only once of something I did not do. A girl accused me of kicking her chair from under her. The rest of the class soon put the head right on that!! You are far more likely to have problems with older children, especially girls, who are far too street-wise for their own good.
And, believe me, the rewards from primary teaching (I am not referring to salaries here) are boundless and over many years I have had so much pleasure from my chosen profession.
My advice - GO FOR IT!!

need to work in mental health for a year, but what job?We Answered:
I'm not sure why you would want our input. Not to be disrespectful. You have a great talent. You are obviously a right brain person. Art therapy is a very creative outlet for both client and therapist. I am far better at writing myself. I would ask if there are any reputable Mental Health hospitals or clinics near you. If you are brave enough, try writing an innovative curriculum integrating drawing and writing. Introduce it to a local children's mental health hospital/clinic. You appear to be in the unique position of being able to get clients to draw or to write their way through their difficulties in response to your well-placed therapeutic questions. What a career you will have!Billy Said:

M.ed creative arts?We Answered:
There are lots of things you can do, but in the arts in general you kind of have to make your own opportunities.Lonnie Said:
art therapy? difficult to break into? for an ESL teacher? We Answered:
You don't have to work in a mental health setting as an art therapist. Have you considered working with people with learning disabilities, or children with challenging behaviour? Also in the UK an Art Therapist in a resource centre/hospital setting would earn more than an English teacher at secondary school, no need to worry about your incomeRandall Said:

You have done the right thing in following your passions. Check out:http://books.google.com/books?id=PfepkVP…
