if you want to switch over to software then do a course and apply in fresherpositionn ..i think its difficult to get job in fresher by going walk in. do as you like..

Hardware knowledge is definitely required for this. It's a must.

I know a centre in chennai that does CCNA course. Though it is a mid level centre, it has a 20 years experienced faculty. He teaches the syllabus fully.
