Im in exactly the same position as you. Fortunately there are 2 colleges I can choose do them at within a 20 mile radius so I wouldnt have to go the distance learning route. I would have thought you would be ok with maths as there are plenty of GCSE help websites but you may need a laboratory for experiments for the Science. May be worth your while asking the local careers service for advice to see if they can find an alternative method for it? Good luck :)

Yes, go to your local Chamber of Commerce. I strongly recommend it. Ask the same question there. What you'll likely find is that your local chamber has it's own version of business start-up consulting and education. Its a common thing for Chambers to offer. But what's more, you'll be getting additional advantages out using the chamber instead of a college or correspondence course.

For one, you'll be getting familiar with the Chamber. Chambers of Commerce are great networking opportunities. They also tend to be self supportive in many respects, meaning the chamber members (business owners) tend to use other chamber member's business's when they look for services and suppliers.

Secondly, you'll be getting advice and learning that is more specific to your area. Courses on entrepreneurial-ism tend to be very, very general, like an MBA in a box. They skim the surface of a lot of topics but not usually in a way that sticks. Local educators are going to be more to the point and very specific.

Thirdly, its free (or at least very, very cheap). Chambers usually use volunteers to teach classes and offer consultation. The benefit is two-fold. For one, you'll be able to keep money in your pocket rather than in tuition. Secondly, you know that the educator isn't profiting by giving you advice. They're doing it as a public service. So the information you get is going to be more direct and to the point. You're not going to get a lot of fluff, and no one's going to try to sell you anything.

It depends on your earnings, go on the OU website and look in the financial/bursaries section it should tell you, while you are there see if there is anything you else you can claim for. You might be able to get a hardship loan or the OU's equivalent.
