Ged Vs High School Diploma

Naomi Said:

GED vs. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

We Answered:

If all things are equal and I know nothing else about you or the other applicant, a high school diploma is more desirable than a GED. The main reason is that it shows that you have the ability to complete an important task (Your education). While there may be good reasons why the GED person did not finish high school, many employers are not willing to listen to it, especially in this economy where there are so many very qualified applicants looking for the same position.

GED vs high school diploma...?

We Answered:

I doubt it. Universities are going to look at what you did in school and when you were homeschooled and your SAT and ACT scores. Honestly, they wouldn't look at either the diploma or the GED. Sometimes the GED has a negative reputation, but in this case you've done a lot of other things, so it is irrelevant. That reputation is when the student doesn't pursue any further education. The CSU system will be easiest to get into. Of those Universities, Davis will be the hardest. But with that GPA and high SAT and ACT scores you have a good chance at all those schools.

Good luck!

Online GED vs. High school Diploma vs. Standard GED?

We Answered:

Every college is different and every online diploma is different so you need to contact the college you're interested in. How you got your high school diploma won't matter when you have a degree or a diploma from a community college.

GED vs. High School Diploma in the military?

We Answered:

We need to look at the many reasons why people do not finish high school and go get their GED instead. They Quit trying in high school. Now understandably there are probably some for legitimate reasons that did not or could not finish high school and those are few and far between. The standards of learning for a GED are far less than what is needed to walk across that stage for a HS diploma. That and again, it shows an early pattern of giving up and then back tracking to check a block. This is also why a GED needs to be completed together with 15 semester hours of college. It shows a pattern of turning ones education goals in the other direction as well as an ability to learn and some personal discipline.

So someone with a GED is not good enough to put their life on the line in war time to defend their country?

I don't believe they are saying that at all. Ironically when I joined I had neither a High School diploma nor a GED. Standards change and when I joined it was relatively post Vietnam and recruiting for the military was tough to say the least as it had a very bad reputation. Now the first thing I had to do at my first duty station was sit in class and get my GED. Now today no one is saying a person without a GED is not good enough as opposed to there are so many people trying to get in the military that recruiters don't have to pick up the phone and cold call or work near as hard to find people wanting to join. Since this has been the case for a few years the standards changed and it is a method of taking the best qualified. Just the same as if you wanted to work for IBM or Sears, there is a process and there are qualifications and that is pretty much the bottom line. When things are good, they can afford to be picky, when things are not so good the standards are relaxed. Anyway a GED with 15 semester hours of college is not that hard to get. I have my GED, I have an Associates and a BS in CJ now. Just have to pick yourself up, meet the basic standards and move on from there.
