Homeschool High School Diploma

Hazel Said:

does anyone know of a good homeschool to get a high school diploma?

We Answered:

The first poster is 100% incorrect, as if that needs to be mentioned.
There are many many good quality umbrella schools and distance learning programs that offer diplomas.
If you want a "highschool diploma" issued by your state, but you want to learn at home, you do have options.
Your state should have a distance ed program. I'm in Texas and ours is offered through Texas Tech University. It is an accredited program (meaning you are a distance student of an actual place) and it is "accepted" by the Texas Education Agency.
Which means, if you finish their program, you will have a highschool diploma issued by the state of Texas.
Most states have this option. They use these distance ed programs to help public school students catch up on missing credits.
The best place to find out about yours is to go to the website of your state education agency. On that site (you will have to hunt) you should find information about their distance ed program, and who offers it.
Key words topics to help your search on those sites would be "admissions process for homeschool students, distance education, making up missing credits, things like that.
This is not the only way to get a diploma, when you are homeschooled, nor am I saying this is the "best way." "best" in homeschooling is what works best for you.
Your parents can print a diploma for you after you complete all your highschool studies.
I'm just saying if you want a state issued diploma (and that is what your question sounded like to me) that is how you do it.

Lydia Said:

I want to homeschool. How badly will getting a GED over a high school diploma hurt me?

We Answered:

Getting a G.E.D. does not hurt you at all! What it does is prove that even though you could not cooperate well in school you still wanted to be something. Getting in to college? all that getting a G.E.D. does is make you have to either pay for your college degree or apply for a grant. Which some that get a High school diploma even have to do, because their education level/S.A.T. scores were not high enough to give them the scholarships they needed. I have a G.E.D. and I am still wanting my college degree. I am just waiting for the grant and then I'm in. I apply every six months. Which is something a lot of people have to do, becausse there is a long waiting list. It is more impressive for a High school diploma, but it doesn't mean that you are giving up! G.E.D.s' are out there because there are alot of people who just can't cope in school!!!!

High school & Homeschool diplomas?

We Answered:

I have no idea how one obtains a home school diploma. As far as I know, in Michigan, there is no testing, or anything you have to do to prove that you are actually teaching or learning anything when homeschooled. Maybe you'd get a GED.

In my opinion, I don't think a college or employer would look at a homeschool diploma, (if there is such a thing) with as high regard as a regular school diploma.

Angela Said:

Is Penn Foster High School or The American School better for getting a homeschool high school diploma?

We Answered:

Try American School, my older brother did that when he was that age and he's majoring in criminal justice now, he's in the top of all his classes. I'm starting American School next year too. I don't know about Penn Foster though.
Good luck!

GED? High school diploma? Homeschool?

We Answered:

To answer your question is GED better that HS diploma? No. A diploma is better. A diploma shows that you are a "normal" person who has accomplished and completed high school. A GED is something that people get when they have made the mistake of dropping out, then decide they need to finish some how. I know there are other reasons for getting a GED, but I am considering what an employer might think if he saw GED on your resume. Go for the diploma. It will be better for your future--job opportunities, etc.

Leslie Said:

How can you get a high school diploma doing homeschool?

We Answered:

Don't waste your time, get a GED then start going for College level certifications from home.

High School degree means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and in the same time you could have a Bachelor's Degree from home.

You can just take the test for the GED, and there are plenty of study guides out there. Seriously, its a super easy test.

Anne Said:

Can or will me kids get a "high school diploma" if I homeschool them their whole lives?

We Answered:

Yes. However, there are many that misunderstand the system and end up having to do upgrading. Just because you do the courses, does not mean you get the credits for the courses. Work closely with a school board in your area to make sure that you are getting credits for all of the high school courses you are taking. Homeschoolers can even register with nearby schools to take the diploma exams. If you do it this way, you gain the same credits you'd have if you went to a public school and have a high school diploma awarded on completion of the necessary courses.

Every country, state/province arranges it differently so make sure you get in touch with your nearest school board to see how you can stick to the right path and still get all of the necessary credits.

If you choose to use your own curriculum, the students will have to take pre-entry college/university (varying by country/state) exams to see if you qualify for a high school diploma. If you pass this test, you'll be awarded a diploma but if you fail you'll have to do upgrading at a college. It is important to educate yourself so you can choose the best direction now.
