Kirk Said:

I applied for a short journalism course at the London School of Journalism?

We Answered:

If you want to get a job with a big newspaper or an news agency, I'd recommend you have a look at the courses at Cardiff and City University (both 12 months) as both have a very good track record of getting people into good journalism jobs.

On the language point it depends how fluent you are, from your question I'm guessing you're pretty fluent. Being multilingual is a big plus if you want to work for one of the big international news agencies.

You also should try to get as much journalism work experience as possible, as that's the real key to getting a career in journalism.

Elaine Said:

Harry Said:

Short journalism courses: BCJ or LSJ?

We Answered:

Do not go to the British College of Journalism. I visited their website to check on them.

They offered me a short free tutorial in exchange for my email address.

They sent me a prospectus, but no free tutorial.

A friend went to the LSJ ages ago and became a successful journalist. It was before the days of online courses, so he attended the college itself.

Donna Said:

What are the best universities for journalism courses?

We Answered:

I agree with SLF. Journalism is not a subject that requires a degree. Having said that, most successful journalists today have a degree in English (many from Oxford). However, there are plenty of journalists that did not attend university at all. Your best bet is to get out there now and start writing and getting published.

Attending uni is a good backup plan. Get the best degree you can from the best university that will accept you in a traditional subject.
