Online Education Degree

Sam Said:

are online schools for an associates degree in healthcare considered a valid education to employers?

We Answered:

“My advice is to avoid online educators: these largely sign up people with low self-esteem, or those desperate for qualifications, and lacking knowledge of educational options.”

Wow, I’ve seen a lot of clueless people, but this post takes the cake.

I teach onground for a college and also online courses. People that take online courses are usually in the military, working 45+ hours, have familiies, and / or don’t have a college nearby that offers the courses they need. They are much more motivated than the traditional students I have onground, and generally score higher in comparable courses.

First thing that you need to do is find out if the college is regionally accredited, you can check at www.chea.org. This means they have been reviewed by an independent third party, so that you can rely on their program.

For something like medical transcribing, you’ll have no problem having your degree accepted, we have no problem with placement. Keep in mind, a degree is just one component of the hiring process.

I want to do my Phd in microbilogy.suggest collage which offer online degree, distance education ,as i work?

We Answered:

You cannot do a laboratory based science doctorate from a distance - PhD's in science are based on research. Nor should you do it in an environment which does not allow you to interact with colleagues in person.

If you have a masters in microbiOlogy, you should have some idea of the major contributors in an area of research that interests you. Contact the scientists and look for a good supervisor - one who is productive and who is effective in advising his students (who you should also talk to). Investigate potential supervisors before you make any commitments.

Most graduate departments offer scholarships (or will support your application to funding agencies), bursaries, and teaching assistanships to graduate students; if your advisor had a grant, he/she may be able to help support you. In general, you have to commit yourself to several years of more than full time work to finish a doctorate - that is just a fact of life. You may well have to choose between working full time (but not getting a doctorate) or going to grad school and accepting the financial support offered by the university, which will be less than you would receive from most full time jobs.

I am all for advanced study, if you are absolutely committed to several years of hard work in your area of study as your first priority. It is much easier to flunk out of grad school than in college, and you run that risk if you are not fully committed to the program or if you choose a poor supervisor.
