Board Of Education

Kelly Said:

How do you run for your local Board of Education?

We Answered:

First off, is there an opening or vacancy on the Board of Education? Unless there is a vacancy or a current member's term is up for re-election there is no need to run for a position that is not available. But if there is a pending vacancy, then it does not hurt to contact the BOE to inquire about how someone runs for a seat. If the BOE can guide you in the right direction-then great! Tight-knit as they may be, they should at least provide basic information on how to run. If they cannot assist you, then contact the Recorder's Office for Monmouth county. They are in charge of voting and official ballots. I do know that there is an application to complete and a set number of signatures required on a petition to get your name on the ballot. Your friend will have to heavily and quickly campaign before voting day! Advertise in the local papers daily. Good luck!

Olga Said:

Can city hall influence the board of education in any way?

We Answered:

If the City Council enacted a law for the city, then yes, it would apply to the schools as well. However, the City Council can't make laws that would only apply to the schools; otherwise they would be usurping the power of the Board of Education.

Mattie Said:

do you agree or disagree about the decision of the case Brown v. Board Education?

We Answered:

Yes why should a child have to go to a school, that's five mile away. when there is one only five blocks away. It was all part of the thinking of Scientific Racism. That black would never be as smart as White's. So therefore let's teach them in their own school at their own level. That just wasn't right.
