Diversity In Education

Gwendolyn Said:

Is "diversity education" the main purpose of today's public education system?

We Answered:

The answer to your question is no. That is not the main purpose. The main purpose is to prepare young people for the future so they can find careers and be successful adults.

Recognizing the FACT that we are a diverse community and that acceptance of our differences promotes peace and starves hatred is good preparation for the future. That doesn't mean you have to AGREE, but you will be a healthier, happier person if you ACCEPT and move past those differences. It's called tolerance. Schools don't punish people for having a dissenting view on homosexuality. They punish them for acting out on that view by bullying, name calling, violence, etc.

The problem of bullies in schools is a result of parents not taking responsibility for teaching their children to be respectful of others even if they are different than you. Respect should be related to behavior, not color, sexual orientation, class, or political leaning. If parents were addressing that, schools wouldn't have to.

U.S. History is being rewritten, and well it should be. Take for example "Cowboys and Indians." The native Americans were portrayed in history as evil murderers, the settlers and soldiers as victims that ultimately were successful in destroying or imprisoning those savages on reservations. The reason they were portrayed that way is that history was written by the "cowboys". We know today that it wasn't exactly like that. Native American culture is recognized today as being predominantly spiritual and peace-loving. The same is true for the history of black Americans in this country. Until recently, the history of black Americans in this country was written by white men.

It wasn't that long ago that the people with less rights than other people were WOMEN and the history of that was determined and written by men.

Both sides should be considered in education.

George Weems wrote a book called "The Life of Washington", in which he made up the story about George chopping down the cherry tree. We aren't demonizing Washington when we say it wasn't true. We are humanizing him.

So the schools have been pushing an agenda for years and it is now being corrected to show both sides. That is what being neutral is. Stop getting your information about schools, history and diversity from "some lady on the bus".

Sam Said:

diversity of education in the couple?

We Answered:

For being well educated, you really have poor spelling and writing ability. Love knows no snobbery. If you truly do love this man what difference does his profession make, it's honest... and he is employed. Maybe your 'friend" has ulterior motives. Be confident in your own feelings. It's your relationship and life, not your friend's.

Eileen Said:

How does the Constitution guarantee diversity in education and employment?

We Answered:

It guarantees the "pursuit of happiness". It does not garantee that you will get it or how you will get it!

Derek Said:

why support diversity in general education courses?

We Answered:

By supporting diversity
you reduce the hate in society, by sanctioning others, and their lifestyles, by allowing people to understand (by life example) that the 'other' is not as pictured by nasty propaganda, (see deaths of 4 gay kids lately)
you expand the different viewpoints that a monoculture lacks. This is the standard industry excuse for diversity hiring)
you will be forced to look both or all sides of history (see Lies my teacher told me by James W. Loewen)
Each culture has its own good points and bad. Worldwide the European white male culture is not the most numerous, and in the US it is getting to be one minority among others. Also for females, non whites, non wasps, your place in the culture was at one time the underdog -- so why would you want to suppress diversity.

hope this helps.

Ramon Said:

Why do you feel the blending of education and diversity is important in the 21st century?

We Answered:

Because we need to understand others, and others need to understand us. It is important for us to be able work together, and if you don't learn that in school, then you'll have a problem later.
