Career wise - an EdD in adult education would prepare one to manage/teach in a facility or function that teaches adults. Examples are vocational ed at your community college or the training function in HR of many companies.

Some conduct research in education specifically directed toward improving learning outcomes of adult learners.

my mother has a MA in education, and she makes more than $50,000 a year. many people who have doctorates in this field go on to become principals ($70+ thou), high ranking administrators (my mother, for instance, is the director of ESL and G/T and Bilingual Ed in a relatively small district here in Texas - her position is not even high-ranking), district officials, grant organizers, or univeristy professors. there is a wide range of opportunity, and a wide earning potential.

don't let anyone tell you not to go this route if you want to. you should do what you are passionate about, and not base this decision on how much money you will make. good luck!
