Early Child Education

Andre Said:

How can I begin my career in early child education?

We Answered:

You could volenteer to help a teacher with something along the lines of grading papers and go to collage to get a degree in Early Children Teaching.

Kathleen Said:

Do you believe students with an Associate's Degree in Early Child Education are more qualified?

We Answered:

I'm going into an ECE/Montessori training program in the fall. I personally would not feel qualified to teach a preschool class without it. If you need a degree to teach older kids, why wouldn't you need one to teach preschool? It's not just glorified daycare! You really do teach the class.

Also, at least where I live, you're required by law to have certified ECE/Montessori teachers for your preschool or daycare. I haven't seen a job posting yet that doesn't require it, and our provincial gov't website for Children and Families even says it's required. I would never hire someone without an ECE and I certainly wouldn't feel competent to lead a class without one.

Elsie Said:

is there a difference between early childhood education and child care service?

We Answered:

no they are not the same. a preschool teacher teaches in a learning/ school environment ,
a child care service provider is a qualified/ certified baby sitter & can provide this service at an in home environment.*

Myrtle Said:

Is bio technology is good or early child education?

We Answered:

Well, it depends. Will people use the technology to better peoples lives or will they try to create "perfect" people? What I mean by this is that it's one thing to use this kind of technology to cure diseases and such. However, it could be used by expectant parents who want to create a child to their specifications. Intelligent, attractive, athletic and so on. This could be dangerous. After all, because of these enhanced abilities, these people could be offered things like jobs and educational opportunities over people who's parents did not have the money to have a genetically engineered child and were born "normal". You see what I'm getting at? By the way, a person born with a disability is not necessarily going to be less intelligent than if they were born without it.

Good colleges for Early Education and Child Care?

We Answered:

Since you're in MA, you may want to look at Wheelock College. Others might be UMass (Amherst), UNC (Chapel Hill), Bank Street, Erikson, and Pacific Oaks. And more than a few community colleges have good programs. In fact, early childhood is largely ignored by four year institutions (with some exceptions) and left to the community colleges.

Brittany Said:

What jobs are available in the military for someone with a 4 yr degree in Child Development (Early Education)?

We Answered:

There is no military job that would allow you that option. The best you could take is a med tech with a focus in peds or a PT tech. Enlisted do not work with kids in a one to one situation as the military does not work with education, child care or other issues such as speech or therapy. In the areas where they may..speech, psych, family support..the postions all go to officers with appropriate degrees or, more often than not nowadays, to civilians. PT is the only therapy setting that I have ever seen enlisted providing the majority of the direct care and most peds patients end up referred to civilian providers unless it is an exceptionally large medical center.

What's better, early child hood education or working in a bank ?

We Answered:

There is no "obvious" or "right" answer when it comes to your choice of career. Your future income shouldn't decide what you want to do for a living. If you have a preference for working with children, then do it. The same goes for being a bank teller: if it pleases you, then just get off your rear-end, and go for it. If you decide to be a bank teller only because it pays more, you may or may not end up hating your job, and spend every day of your life waking up to a career you don't want to be associated with, only to wonder, "What if I HAD been a preschool teacher?" Personally, if you do decide to be a teacher, and you love what you do, does money matter? You'll never look at what you do as a "JOB" or "WORK" if you do what you love. Personally, I've made the decision between being a high school teacher or something similar to your alternative, and I'm happy with my choice, knowing that I'm working with kids and doing what I love.

Also, I don't know what the heck your school is trying to shove in your heads. You don't "need to know" what you want to do for a living right now. Yes, EVEN if you're a senior. It would be a good idea to have a sense of what you want to do for a living, but nobody is REQUIRING this of you. You have plenty of time to think about it. In terms of reality, you don't even have to stick with a major in college until you're done with your sophomore year. But by then, you'd better at least have a good idea. Anyways, you have time, so don't fret or make decisions because you think you have to make them.
