Jonathan Said:

To become a curriculum developer or reviewer for early childhood education do need teaching experience?

We Answered:

Not necessarily I studied at Sunderland Uni for a BA hons in Early Childhood Studies and that would probably be better for a position looking at early years education as it specialises on education up to 12 years and also covers up to 16 not as thoroughly. If your already trained then i guess that relevent experience would also suffice. From my experience these days QTS (being a qualified teacher) is not necessary for many of the educational positions anymore and in fact many teachers are unqualified teachers. So long as you can prove the position. There are rare cases when a facility would need a person to have a QTS on their staff (such as a childrens centre may need a teacher who is qualified on their staff to get certain perks like more budget) but it is usually negotiable for equivillant qualification or experience.

Hope that helps

in curriculum II in regards to early childhood education, what is the sources of its learning content?

We Answered:

An early childhood education program is tailored to best serve each child and his/her needs. It's CHILD-centred education. It's used to prepare young children for following future school curriculum.

Yvonne Said:

What do you do if a child is being "left behind" but you must move on in the curriculum?

We Answered:

YOU DIFFERENTIATE! What is he dropping behind in? If it is reading, that's easy! I do about an hour of group instruction and about an hour of differentiated. So, when I do differentiated, I have my other kids doing centers or writing or reading, and I take small groups of kids at the same reading level! I also have a half an hour of my day for differentiated math. The other kids are working while I pull kids who are behind to practice skills they need. The other option, is sending home tips for parents. So, if they are low in reading, give the parents questions to ask while reading to boost comprehension, or teach the parents how to have them decode (sound out) a word. For math, give the parents an assignmetn to do with the child every night. If they are having trouble counting over 20, work on that. If they can't count on, give them problems that focus on that. I teach 1st grade in the inner city. Most of my kids are "behind". (even though I don't agree with that term....they are only 6!) If I can do it, so can you!

Is education a good field to get into?

Samuel Said:

Does anyone know anything about the Bereiter-Engelman curriculum?

We Answered:

It is a highly structured direct instruction curriculum where children were forced to sit and learn material by rote and repeat that material on demand. It was touted as the solution for low income kids who were behind. It taught lots of kids to hate school.
