Early Childhood Education Preschool

Catherine Said:

im going to college for early childhood education to be either a preschool or kindergarten teacher...?

We Answered:

I am an early childhood ed/early childhood special ed. teacher. I have been doing it for about 5 years now. To be honest, I wouldn't change careers for the world. Granted, I don't have the largest salary (just whatever the going price is for elementary school teachers with experience and a masters degree is...which I think is around 35K) There will always be some days that you feel like your on the edge, but other days when all the stress of the world is on you in your private life, you go to work and it seems to disappear. Everyone is different, but if you become wholeheartedly dedicated to it, it can be an amazing experience. To see children grow and blossom because of your help is wonderful.

Jennie Said:

What early childhood education units do preschool teachers need?

We Answered:

Usually it depends on the state in which you live... some states have very minimal requirements of a high school diploma and the ability to read and write. Others, like California, where I live have stricter standards. Here, you need to have at LEAST 6 units of early childhood education classes from a college in order to apply for a job. Most require at least 12 units in the "core" areas: child development, child/family&community, curriculum development, and a principles class in order to be a teacher in the classroom. For administrators, you are generally required (in CA) to have at least an Associate Degree (for private preschools) and a BA for a site director which includes 24 units of CDE classes and 6 administration units and 2 adult supervision (mentor) units. You can look at a sample of CA's child development permit matrix which tells you requirements in order to meet their standards for gaining their additional "endorsement" for preschool-age teachers at:

do you know a good college offering a major in early childhood education or preschool/kindergarten education?

We Answered:

I know that next year Eastern Michigan University will be offering Early Childhood Education as a major. EMU is a pretty big school, about 20,000 students. Also, EMU is known for their teaching school. A lot of students go there for teaching because they have such great programs.

Preschool teachers: What was your motivation to study in Early Childhood Education or go into teaching?

We Answered:

Bo s

It may have been to really challenge and stimulate children and to watch them develop and succeed.

Paul Said:

i want a job in preschool.i have an intention to get a degree in early childhood education.?

We Answered:

1st of all depending what state you live in of course, you can't just be a preschool teacher you have to AT LEAST have you CDA. But if you do want to work in a childcare facility otherwise, a good sentence for your resume should be" I love being with children, and I would like to start gaining experience in working with children and I'm willing to get any education or training that's needed for the job." good luck.

Irene Said:

What kind of degree do I need for early childhood education?

We Answered:

If you want to teach kindergarten or early childhood in a public school, then you will need a Bachelor's degree. Head Start now requires that teachers (not assistants) have four-year degrees. Day care centers are now beginning to require at least Associate degrees.

In general, preschools and day care facilities are increasingly requiring that their staff members have degrees.
