I think you should be able to decide for you own whether they'll be very much ahead of you. Do take note that many of the university students in Singapore did not attend high school in Singapore but are from China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam where the syllabus can be vastly different.

anyway, it's not true, especially right now since the government has done away with the primary 1 and 2 exams, they will be focusing on other aspects that require students to think more intuitively and participate more actively, rather than just mugging with pen and paper.

secondly, many schools, especially IP schools focus on project work, which requires students to think innovatively and submit products that are marked based on many things, including content, style and creativity.

google for a document by i think lee hsien loong or the minister of education or some MP that talked about the education system, written in say 2002 or 2003? 2005? haha.

Any Singaporean parent will tell you that the sheer amount of homework alone is the source of a lot of stress.
However there have been attempts more recently to move away from the rote-learning system and there is greater flexibility for individual schools to adopt slightly more creative
methods of teaching.
As for student suicides there have been some, but I don't think they were primarily due to the educational system.
