Is education expensive in South Africa?

We Answered:

Yes it is, not just saying this. I have first hand experience, I had to drop out & work so that I can complete my studies.

P.S. Tsotsi when you say "the new government looks after his people", which people are you referring to? Things are not getting any better in S.A & you know it.

Ernest Said:

minister of education 1976 south africa?

We Answered:

That Afrikaans would be the medium for education at schools. Africans were used to being taught in their own language to a large extent and Afrikaans was viewed as the oppressors langauge to a large extent.
English has taken over now I believe and many kids are taught in English.

Pedro Said:

How Does the lack of sex education in South Africa connect to the anti apartheid movement?

We Answered:

I do not know why you imagine that there was a lack of sex education in South Africa. If anything the entire country was bombarded with information and still is. What THAT has to do with the anti apartheid movement?

South African education Versus British. I am told South Africa has excellent education? Is this a myth?

We Answered:

South Africa's education system on average is very bad, but the education received from the good "white" state schools and most of the private schools is very good. Former model C state schools produce the best results of all government schools.

Laurie Said:

Current issues in the health or education sectors in South Africa?

We Answered:

Mark, with all due respect, I disagree fundamentally with you on the first point of your answer relative to funding.

SA, which has the 27th largest GDP in the world and is the wealthiest nation on the African continent spends more on education as a percentage of government budget than any nation in the world.

So the current issues in both health and education are very similar to many other state run institutions, where too many unqualified, incompetent and lazy individuals impact negatively on service delivery.

Furthermore, fraud, corruption and nepotism abound in government and money that is available to provide a service does not reach it's destination, it is pocketed for self gain.

SA has huge challenges in education to provide the "hard skills" that we lack to take this nation forward and we have the problems presented above.

Our health sector's biggest challenge is the hiv/aids pandemic and our previous president, Mbeki, and his demented health minister, who wanted to hand out a bunch of beetroot to each hiv/aids patient rather than ARV's, have ensured that it remains a huge challenge that is simply out of control.
