can you be a magazine or newspaper editor with a bachelor's degree in elementary education?

That's a hard job to get with a journalism degree. You might try copyediting or copywriter and have to build up from there.

Nellie Said:

Would it be okay to obtain an elementary education degree before a speech-language pathology degree?

We Answered:

Very much so. In fact, it's one of the best undergraduate majors. Speech pathology students take ed psych and other courses required for teaching in elementary schools, particularly in order to get a special credential to practice there.

Leslie Said:

How long will it take to get my elementary education degree?

We Answered:

I think the year you spent as a kindergarten student does not adequately prepare you for university training and student teaching and licensure in my state of California. If you attended elementary school, you still need to complete high school and pass an educational competency test proving you took college prep courses and know basic 8th grade english and math...not nearly sufficient, in my opinion.
If you are admitted to a college/university, you must comply with their curriculum in education...4 years minimum...and successfully complete student teaching at an elementary school...one or two semesters, and take the state licensure exam and successfully pass it. Plug yourself in anywhere along the line and you will see what awaits you time-wise.
Oh yes, you need to learn to express yourself more clearly, but kindergarten does not necessarily prepare one for that, does it?

Adam Said:

Are all those online colleges legit? Can I get an elementary education degree from any of them?

We Answered:

No, not all of them are legitimate.

You need to contact your State Department of Teacher Certification and ask what online degrees, if any, they accept for teacher licensing. No matter what claims an online college may make, your degree in elementary education will not be worth much if it does not qualify you for a teacher's certificate!

You will find links to certification requirements and contact information for all 50 states at this site. Incidentally, there is certification reciprocity between many states, so once you fulfill the requirements for one state you likely will be eligible for certification in many other states.
