Mac or PC for a college History/ education major?

We Answered:

Hi SD,

Even if you're not worried about price, keep in mind that with the money you'll save buying a Windows PC you could buy important peripherals like a printer/scanner, professional photo-editing software like Adobe Creative Suite, an external hard drive for your music, or any of thousands of games that are only made for Windows. Here's a helpful tool that will walk you through the process of selecting a Windows-based laptop that fits your needs: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scou…

Good luck in your search, and please don't hesitate to message me with any questions!

Cheers,

What kind of jobs can I get with a Social Science/History Education Major besides teaching?

We Answered:

I am a 2nd grade student and studying English Language Teaching. I'll also be teaching like you 2-3 years later... However, I don't want to focus on teaching only. I'm playing basketball on college team and hope to be professional when I get my license soon. I think you should concentrate on your hobby whatever it is. You may not make money, but you can enjoy doing it. Please don't leave teaching though. You must have studied a lot to have the major.

Is a double major in German education and History education a good idea?

We Answered:

I just want to tell you one thing and you have probably heard this many times but if you become a social studies teacher you better know how to coach something. My adviser tried to get me to take coaching classes at my university and I thought I would be okay without it. It's June and I've been applying since January. Not even one interview. Go to a website like successlink.org/jobs which is one of the two main web sites in MO used to advertise for teaching positions and look up social studies/science positions in middle and high school levels. You will find most want coaches. Some will even say the position comes with the coaching job. If German is what you love then go for it. Many places in MO have German language classes because Germann immigrants settled there.

Is it more beneficial to have a degree in History or History Education?

We Answered:

I would do History Ed, but that's so that you can get student teaching and coursework in education. All of that is invaluable. No, I don't think most licenses are transferrable (my Iowa one didn't transfer to Texas), but you'll still benefit.

Oh, and my nonlicensed colleagues have to go to school AND teach so that they can get their license, and it doesn't count towards a masters.

Know of any good part-time jobs related to tennis or history/education somehow?

We Answered:

Try tutoring. You get paid by the hour and will have a flexible schedule. You can place an ad on Craig'slist, churches, or free local newspapers or your local YMCA bulletin's board. Once you have a few clients, chances are they'll refer you to their friends and family members.

how hard would it be to do a major in history education while doing a minor in music?

We Answered:

It's definitely doable, but make sure you have college credit going into it (AP or something similar) and be prepared to take summer courses. I started out as music ed but changed my major after a year. I'm now math education with a minor in music. I finish my music minor next semester.

Does the University of Miami have a good education program? Specifically History Education?

We Answered:

The University of Miami is a well respected university with a fantastic international reputation. Both History programs are ranked well, but Delaware's program is a few spots higher than Miami's. Because of how small the discrepancy is, I would say the programs are virtually identical.

That said, I think UM has a better national reputation, generally. It's ranked about 15-20 spots higher than UD, overall. I'm from Florida, so that could be why I think that. Overall, it wont matter too much either way.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
