Most pastry schools give you similar training and have similar reputations. It is really once you get out in the industry that you have to make a name for yourself. The schools just give you the tools to make it happen.

We Answered:There are hundreds of culinary programs in the US these days. It is important that you choose a school that is best suited for you and your needs and doing your research is smart! Here are some things you should look into when comparing and contrasting culinary schools:
How long has the school been in existence? (CIA opened in 1946 and is regarded as the World's Premier Culinary College)
Is the school for profit? (CIA is a non-profit institution. They are not a publicly traded company and are operated as a traditional college.)
What type of accreditation does the program have? (CIA offers fully accredited Bachelors and Associates degrees and is accredited by ACCSCT and Middle States.)
How long are the programs? (CIA offers a 21 month Associates degree in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts and a 38 month Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts Management or Baking and Pastry Arts Management)
How many hands on instructional hours will you spend in the kitchens and bakeshops? (At the CIA, you will spend over 1,300 hours hands on within the first two years of the program!)
Does the school provide housing? (CIA guarantees on campus housing for all incoming freshman and has housing available on their 150 acre Hyde Park, NY campus for upperclassmen as well.)
How many kitchens and bakeshops does the school have? (CIA has 41 kitchens and bakeshops on campus and 5 student run restaurants that students take classes in.)
Is financial aid available? (90% of students enrolled at the CIA receive some type of merit or need based financial aid.)
