Ashley Said:

What would you do if you were the Minister of Education in Turkey?

We Answered:

This question is mine lol

0- NO PRIVATE SCHOOLS! NO MONEY FOR SCHOOLS (üniversite harçlar? and kay?t paras?)! EQUAL EDUCATION RIGHT TO EVERYONE!
1- NO TO YÖK! FREE UNIVERSITIES!
2- Today the foundation who gets the most money from the government is Diyanet ??leri even it's not needed. So I would use their money to build new schools. My priority would be primary and high schools.
3- I would make deterrent sanctions for the parents who don't send their daughters to the school (both primary and high school). This can be money or jail punishment. In the future the education level would increase and I wouldn't need those punishments (I hate giving punishment).
4- I would make teaching in Anatolia (especially in the East) essential. I would give extra money to the teachers who stay there.
5- I would change the school books (sorry but I would only use them as toilet paper). No memorizing in the lessons.
6- Every school must have science and computer laboratories. Also library is needed.
7- There must be exams in the schools to test the students but the questions shouldn't ask must-memorized things.
8- Students must read at least 4 books in a month.
9- I would open Köy Enstitüleri instead of Meslek Liseleri. And I would make it common in the villages.
10- I would change the school subjects. For at least 7 years, students learn (or should I say "memorize"?) the same things. I would add "recent history of Turkey" and "world history" in history lessons.
11- University rectors must be chosen by the students. Students must have an important place on decisions of university.
12- Government must provide all the school equipments to poor students.
13- Learning reading-writing would be essential for all people. I would give free courses for adults who need it.
14- No SBS and ÖSS. My idea is: Different exams will be prepared by the government for all levels. For example the best high schools of Turkey will choose the students with a different exam than middle-leveled high schools. And if a student wants to go to a good high school, he must be good at school lessons. My aim is to make school's importance increase. Because I hate dersanes. Not every student can go there. They are the symbols of capitalism in education.

Tiffany Said:

The Minister of Education has decided to close all Philosophy classes, why should we study Philosophy?

We Answered:

What country is this? Sounds pretty unlikely and extreme to me.... are you sure you have your facts straight? In no civilized country that i know of, can the Ministry of Education (goodness, that has an "Orwellian" sound to it, doesn't it??) order universities to cancel a broad category of courses!!

That said, studying philosophy can force or help us to use logic in a rigorous manner, and to examine our own beliefs in order to figure out which of them can stand up to logical analysis. In short, studying philosophy can help us think more clearly - which to my mind is always a good thing :=). // If a government or regime wanted to prevent people from thinking clearly for some nefarious reason, then getting rid of all philosophy teaching would certainly be one way to go about furthering this goal - but this would be a pretty extreme step, and would cast that government in a VERY bad light. Any government that would do such a thing, would be pretty dictatorial or at least devious and up to no good, since it wants to keep its citizens from thinking on their own and using logic to analyze its policies and actions.
