Auckland University and University of Otago were both placed in the times education supplement 2006 of top 100 universities in the world but only Auckland was in 2007. You should check out that list and compare your other options with those two universities. The other good ones are Victoria Unversity in Wellington and Massey University. It all depends on what you want to study. I'd go to Auckland or Otago for most things except Law and Politics and English at Victoria and Animal and Veterinary Science at Massey. The difference between Auckland is that its in a big city in the warmer north whereas Otago is in a small student town in the cold south.

One main difference is the funding of education.

There are all sorts of differences but to help you along you should look at the decile system used in NZ. This, loosely, translates to the socioeconomic level of the parents and the community the school is in. Put simply, a low income/decile school is likely to need extra help and funding so, in theory, the government provides extra financial support to those schools. That is a very simple explanation and not very technical though. Funding comes from the Government, not through property taxes.

Please ensure your reason for moving to another country is not because you believe that your own country is bad. Each country has up sides and down sides.

Yes, the UK is expensive, but other countries that are taxed lower don’t have the quality infrastructure that the UK has.

Yes, the climate is changeable, but that is why everything is green.

Yes, there are loads of foreigners, but if you move to another country, you’re doing just the same.

Think really, really carefully. I see loads of comments about a “honeymoon” period, whereby moving abroad has a novelty factor for a couple of months. But that can easily wear off, and it may be that you’re going to incur lots of expense instead of just thinking it through carefully first.

You cannot teach with simply a BA. You need to have a teaching credential. So yes, you have to complete a credentialing program at a university and be issued a teaching credential by the state of california. A credential program has typically three things:

Coursework
subject matter qualification tests
student teaching

usually takes 2 years.

I'm not sure about their educational system in New Zealand, but here in the USA our system has gone to the dogs.

Studying abroad, period, is a good experience and something everyone ought to do. If you have the chance to study abroad, do it.

A lot of students from New Zealand come to the US or Mexico to study, but it could be that they do it because they want a study abroad experience. I'm not sure.

Hiya. I can recommend the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). I studied hospitality here, although I hear that the training for early childhood education is meant to be really good. Auckland is also a really awesome place to study tertiary especially for overseas students. in terms of accomodation there are heaps of student apartments 3 minutes walk to uni such as the AUT student apartments which are relatively low in cost, and a really great place to make heaps of friends; not only from nz but from so many different cultures. www.aut.ac.nz.
