Pharmacist Education Requirements
Floyd Said:
If I go to school in IL to be a pharmacist, can I still get a job in CA with the same degree? We Answered:
Yes, but you'll have to meet CA requirements. CA does not use the MPJE, but use their own exam. For students who went to OOS schools, the pass rate is about 50% from what I have heard. I have heard of stories of people getting so fed up with the process that they leave CA.Shannon Said:
How to get a job as a pharmacist...?We Answered:
In the United States, a pharmacist must complete 4 years of graduate level training at a pharmacy school, usually after receiving a bachelors degree. A bachelors degree is not required, however, as most pharmacy schools only require two years of undergraduate education and the completion of a list of prerequisites. I would assume that the Community College you are attending is either giving those require prerequisites or it is a Pharmacy Tech program.Debra Said:

Education & Requirements for Pharmacy ?We Answered:
Pharmacy is a great career for people who are good at math and science and would like to help people without actually getting blood on themselves!!!!You need to do as much chemistyr and math in HS as possible. Them you go to a college and study chemistry and bio for two years, then either transfer into the College of Pharmacy, or apply to the College of pharmacy, depending how the system works at your state university. Getting into the Pharmacy school is usually very competitive - you will need a 3.5 or so in your science pre reqs. Once you are in you will do three years of hard courses with many hours of internship, then your 4th year you will do a series of residencies in community, hopistal, nursing home, and research facilities. Then you graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) and make a pile of money - about $100,000 a year.
Go for it!

Education requirements to become a pharmacist? We Answered:
To apply to pharmacy school (to get your Pharm.D), you will need to take specific courses (general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, etc.) but the required courses vary according to the school to which you are applying. Some schools also require that you take the PCAT (as law and medical schools require the LSATs or MCATs). The Pharm.D is a professional (not a graduate) degree, and thus a BA or BS is not a required prerequisite. There are both traditional and non-traditional programs, with schooling lasting anywhere from 3 to 6 (sometimes even more) years.
