Very important, read what has already been stated in the news for the past 10 years. Our mind and body both require physical activity to keep us healthy and mentally alert. I think that those school systems that have dropped the physical education program from their schools are putting the children in the charge in great danger. I would hope that doctors and parents would fight schools systems that choose to drop PE from their schools classes.

If there isn't enough time to do all the required classes in a particular day, why don't they just lengthen the school day from 6 hours per day to a full 8 hours a day like the rest of the working world?

at our school, the incoming freshmen are required to take all four years of P.E.

i think it's not valued because its impossible for every single person to be physcially fit. for many, it's their genes that are at fault. Also, in P.E., most people just stand around(at least in my school). its such an easy A, since the only reason you wouldn't have an A is if you completely fail the mile (over 20 minutes), if you ditch, or if you just never dress out in your P.E. clothes. Since P.E. is just a free A, theres really no point in having it count as such a big deal.

Welll, since this is the homeschooling section, I would argue to do homeschool instead of public school - where you *can* have all the PE you want!!!
