Uugh, I'm doing this exam too. Here's the structure my Sociology for OCR book offers, hope it helps!

- Construct a brief introduction identifying the theoretical or empirical source of the 'view' contained in the essay title. This introduction should 'set the scene' or context of the debate, i.e. clearly state who the debate is between in terms of theories or sociologists, and/or define any technical or conceptual terms used in the title.

Your introduction should be approximately half a page in length.

- Outline the point of view in the essay title in some depth and detail.

- Elaborate and/or illustrate that point of view with reference to theories, empirical studies and data that support it. This is crucial, and it means learning theories, studies and statistical data, and using contemporary evidence when appropriate. Always link the evidence that you use to the view in the question. The prompt words 'This means...' or 'This shows...' should ensure that you are interpreting the data used.

- Assess the point of view contained in the essay title with the specific criticisms backed up by empirical studies and/or by outlining alternative views or theories. With regard to the latter course of action, do not be content to just outline another theory. Be quite clear in what way alternative theories differ from the original view.

- Construct a brief conclusion based on the content of your essay. Look at the title again. Have you addressed the essential elements of the question? Clearly state which point of view your evidence supports.

This is how it was explained to me. If I were to get a Secondary (HS) Education degree, it would be like getting 2 degree's. 1 would be in the subject I wanted to teach and the other in Education. Most of your course work will be in the subject matter(check with a college the fluctuation of a subject) and the rest in Education. Then you will have to take a test to be certified as a teacher.

How about the effects of continual testing on children and teachers? No Child Left Behind demands endless testing and this has an impact on how many teachers teach and how many schools approach the issues. There has to be some societal impact on kids who are constantly under pressure to perform on tests, especially those in the lower socio-economic spectrum.
