Jack Said:

What schools are an option for me with these grades so far?

We Answered:

Some things to consider:

1. Don't forget that it takes more than grades to get into a good school. It takes good test scores and good extracurricular activities. It's good that you are trying to get a wider variety of activites on your academic resume.

2. I like that you are planning to go to grad school (although I am guessing it will take more than two years if you are planning to finish a bachelor's first). If you do really well in undergrad then you can go to a top graduate program. Don't get discouraged if you can't get into a top school right off of the bat. In fact, going to a state school that is cheaper is a great plan. Do well as an undergrad in engineering and you can get a master's degree that is paid for (engineering is the best if you want free school).

3. Don't forget to look at the rankings of schools...it's always a good idea to try and get into a top program if you are able and can afford it. Here are the top aerospace programs: colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-doct-aero" rel="nofollow">http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreview…

4. If you want to work somewhere like NASA, then you should look into schools they have a history of hiring from. Not all aerospace programs are going to be created equally. Some may be targeted towards the defense industry. Some in the space industry. Be sure to understand the programs you are looking into. Here is a good website to see where NASA is hiring their students from: http://coop.jsc.nasa.gov/ Click on the "Student Biographies" section.

It's hard to say what every admissions department will look for, but if you find a program you like, apply for it and let them know why you like it (since it will be easy to be sincere). Look around at different places and see what feels right.

The 5 happiest Countries are all Socialist Economies, With Health Care and Education included in your taxes?

We Answered:

I thought this was a well-thought out question until you used the term "Tea Baggers" - why is it that you people can't stop yourselves from calling other people names? Reading it more closely, it seems that you are just making up your own facts and saying nothing.

Anyway, where do you get the idea that Costa Rica is a "Fully Socialist Country?"

"Costa Rica is a democratic republic, as stated by the 1949 Constitution, which guarantees all citizens and foreigners equality before the law, the right to own property, the right of petition and assembly, freedom of speech, and the right to habeas corpus, among others. The government is divided into independent executive, legislative, and judicial powers. "

And Canada?

"Officialy, Canada is a confederation with parliamentary democracy. That means Canada's system is patterned partly after Great Britian's, but also has a federal system like that in the United States. The federal government holds considerable power in areas of national concern, such as health insurance, trade, the military, and development. Provincial governments have authority over education, property laws, and medical facilities."

And here's a little fact about Denmark:

"The Constitutional Act lays down the framework of Danish democracy. It outlines the citizens’ rights or human rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of assembly, which i.a. are intended to protect them against infringement of their rights by the State. "

I think that your poll leaves out tons of information about those "happy countries" compared to the US.

Socialism is not a demon, especially if you have a relatively small population of similar socio-economic and ethnic groups, living in a similar climate and

The population of Norway is under 5,000,000, with about 84% of the population being ethnic Norwegians.
The population of Denmark is just under 6,000,000, with 5,000,000 of them being ethnic Danes. Further, in Denmark, 84% of the population is urban.
Costa Rica, also with a population of around 5,000,000, is comprised of about 95% whites and mestizos.

So why can't we draw the conclusion that happiness comes from living with people like you - and not too many of them? In fact, your article states that one of the reasons for Costa Rican's happiness is strong family bonds and social networking.

New Jersey, by comparison, has a population of almost 9,000,000 - there are no fewer than 12 languages spoken in the state, and has a multiplicity of ethnic groups including whites, blacks, hispanics, portugese, creole, polish, russian and others.

Expand that to encompass the entire US, with a population of 300,000,000; with many, many different races and ethnic groups, with cities, suburbs - climate variation from the swampland of Florida to the northern tip of Alaska.

The US is not "Corporate Centric". The US provides opportunity for people to direct their own lives, to produce based on free market economics instead of government mandate. This does not happen in the absence of government - there are government regulations directing the banks, the insurance companies, manufacturing, service - we are a nation of laws and businesses and consumers operate within those laws.

What we object to is when the laws start to dictate who gets what, and who has too much. Why should my tax money, as a resident of New Jersey, be spent on building roads in West Virginia so that Robert Byrd can get re-elected? (I use him as an example because he was admired for all the Federal money he brought to his state)

Why, as a parent of college students, should the loans I negotiated be negated and then taken over by the Federal Government?

The United States Government is an incredibly corrupt institution at this point in time. All you have to do is look at how the Healthcare bill was railroaded into being - no fair votes, no one read the thing, it was forced into law by bribery, threats and arm-twisting. There is no way that I would ever agree to giving MORE power to that group of thugs.

I don't know about your poll, I don't know about you - but I can tell you that MY happiness stems from my ability to direct my own life, to conduct my affairs within the laws of a reasonable country or state - I can start a business if I want to, I can live in whatever state suits my desires for climate or economic opportunity. When the government tells me that I cannot get a job because I don't meet "Diversity" requirements (which has happened to me) or that I cannot keep my health insurance because my company can no longer afford it because of the Government Requirements - I become very unhappy.

Valerie Said:

What are my chances of getting into the UC schools and UW?

We Answered:

UC admission evaluation is based on a variety of factors. All UCs favor factors such as the rigor of your HS curriculum (number of UC-approved honors/AP/IB/CC courses completed), excellent weighted and unweighted GPA, and demonstrated leadership abilities. You are also compared to your peers, meaning your academic and extracurricular achievements are viewed in context of students in your HS who applied to the UCs this year and up to 3 years prior. Given the number of factors considered and the complex data involved, it is essentially impossible for anyone to accurately predict your chance.

The UCs you are interested in tend to be academic achievement oriented, meaning fantastic grades and stellar test scores are essential to be competitive. Students who demonstrate ability to achieve extraordinary extracurriculars and/or overcoming horrible hardships while maintaining excellent academic achievement are favored. However, these UC campuses rarely overlook bad grades/test scores even if extraordinary extracurriculars and/or horrible hardships are in the equation.

Paula Said:

Please help is this resume good enough? and should I bring it on my interview?

We Answered:

The resume is normally used to get an interview. There's little point in giving it to them now. You may have it with you just as a reference if they ask you to fill out any forms but I wouldn't volunteer it to them at this time. For future reference, take the hobbies out. This is personal and no longer put on a resume. Also remove the GPA reference. Include the ASPCA and shelter work with your Volunteer Experience. I agree with the other answer that the objective should be removed in this case. While a company will understand that a person of your age won't have much, if any, experience you should maximize what you do have. Fill out the Volunteer Experience more. Put in length of this experience much as you would a job. For the fund raising, including the total amount raised with your assistance may be helpful and shouldn't hurt. The e-mail address raised in the other answer is also a good point. Use last name first name or some combination that tells who you are rather than some slogan or such. It might be neat to you but has little meaning to others or is just a bother.
List "Speak fluent Tagalog on a separate line. Don't include it wn the "Good social and communication skills". This helps make your skills list longer.

Discuss It!
