Becky Said:

I'm a PSEO high school student aspiring to become a dentist. Should I take a college class in bio or psych?

We Answered:

1. Get a degree is something like medical technology, so you can fill the prereqs and prepare for a career (just in case dental school doesn't work out).

2. Be careful about taking college classes in high school. Remember, if you don't do well, the grade will haunt you when you apply for
dental schools.

3. I doubt you will get any valuable experience from hanging around a dental office. A better use of your time would be to enjoy high school and get good grades in the classes you are taking now.

Ricky Said:

biology finals for a high school student!!?

We Answered:

An enzymatic reaction is a chemical reaction involving enzymes. Enzymes are complex proteins that act as biological catalysts, helping to speed biochemical reactions in living things. Because they are catalysts, enzymes are not used up in these reactions; they only increase the rate at which they occur. For example, the enzyme amylase is present in saliva and breaks down starch in food into sugar. The substances that enzymes act upon are called substrates (in the above example, starch is the substrate). One final thing: enzymes are very specific as to the reactions they facilitate—enzyme molecules form complementary shapes to their intended substrates, almost like a lock and key combination.

Should I be a high school teacher or RN?

We Answered:

Both are great and both will qualify you for educational grants such as the TEACH grant which will erase all your student debt. Nursing has a similar grant but its name escapes me.
How far do you want to go in college. You can be a nurse with great pa with a BA/BS or even a AA/AS but you can make even more if you go to grad school. Teachers must have a BA/BS to become state certified and the pa varies by state and local board of education. In my state a teacher with a BA/BS starts out with a pay of $44k a year.
Consider stress in making your choice. Both can be stressful and under appreciated.
