Biology Projects For High School Students

Joanne Said:

What would be a good idea for a biology project?

We Answered:

Funny that you asked that because I was just think about it...if I had to do a science project, what would it be on? I came up with that it would have to involve fire in some way, because I am a pyromaniac! I think if you took different things like wood, plastic, cotton sheets, a VCR, leaves,...whatever, and weighed it out and burned it up; then find out how fast it burned with and without gasoline or some other form of accelerant, the found out how much ash was left from each one. You may be able to do something with that and have a bit of fun as well!

Exciting / Engaging Activities to teach high school students about photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

We Answered:

When my teacher taught us photosynthesis it was so much fun!! she had all of us pretend we were different parts of the process (light molecules, ATP molecules, oxygen, etc.) then we would run around the classroom doing the cycle! we all loved it.

and yes, we are high school students. juniors and sophomores. =]

High school students HELP a teacher....?

We Answered:

Bio wasn't very fun for me in 9th grade but I bet that a lot more labs would work. I know chem is a more lab-ish science but Chem got my attention because it had at least 1 lab a week. They're fun and kids look forward to them more than a bunch of book work.

Larry Said:

Can anyone give a topic for a high school investigatory project? Biology related...?

We Answered:

You live in the phillipines, so I imagine you might have access to tropical rainforests. Classification is a branch of science that many people take for granted because it's been done on a widescale, and it's also quite tedious. But, I think it would be a great idea to go to a forest, find 20 different types of trees, and categorize each one of them. Find out which are indigenious, which have been imported, and even catalog how pervasive that tree is. I know it sounds simple, but I think its very important and useful.

Ideas for advance marine biology science fair projects?

How about using algae to make diesel fuel and solve our energy problems? Most of the world is water and algae can convert CO2 and sunlight into oil. Some of them can have 77% of their cell mass as oil. Once you get the oil, you can make it into diesel fuel with easily bought chemicals. There are some great Yahoo groups on this: Biodiesel and oil_from_algae.
