The US is a large country with many different boarding schools. Not knowing anything about you, I find it difficult to tell you what the best boarding schools are for you.

In the northeast, the best-known all girls boarding schools are Miss Porters School, Emma Willard, and Westover. There are several more.

You can research boarding schools on www.boardingschoolreview.com, www.boardingschools.com and www.petersons.com. For a wealth of information and misinformation, you can read this discussion board http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep… On that discussion board, you will find many discussions of people arguing over which are the best schools.

If you are a US citizen, you can try to get financial aid. However, you have to qualify for it. Financial aid is very hard to get for international students, but there are a few possibilities. The going rate for the coming school year is around $43,000/year in the northeast. Some schools is lower cost of living areas charge less. A few school offer merit aid that is not tied to income. Generally, the applicant needs to offer the schools something that they cannot get from the regular applicant pool.

IB isn't considered nearly as highly as AP. Unfortunately, it has been at schools that have had very low rankings when it comes to standardized tests, so you aren't going to see it at top private schools. Many private schools don't have a lot of AP classes, because their regular or Honor courses prepare students for the AP tests. One doesn't need to take the class to take the test.

There is no such thing as the top schools, best is whichever school is the best fit for you. My son attends an extremely rigorous day private school, it's a perfect fit for him, but not for 95% of students. Other kids attend private schools with big athletic programs, or arts programs. It depends on what you're into and where you'll fit academically.

Here are lists of boarding schools, check out the websites of the schools in an area you'd like to live. Also, remember that most openings by far are in 9th grade. Generally, International students must pay the first years tuition and fees in advance.
